Here is an article from a Brazilian website. Not sure how accurate it is but it claims Shania and Paula are recording a duet. I think they are just assuming.

Agora, a cantora voltou ao estúdio para colaborar com um dos maiores nomes do country internacional, Shania Twain, conhecida no Brasil pelo hit “Man, I Feel Like a Woman”.

A norte-americana postou em seu Twitter uma foto com a brasileira e a seguinte legenda: “Paula Fernandes e eu estamos trabalhando em algo muito especial. Mal posso esperar para compartilhar isso com o Brasil”. Ainda não há data de lançamento nem mais detalhes sobre a música.

Paula Fernandes is even eyeing the international career. Last year, she released "Long Live" version Portuguese / English of the success of Taylor Swift. According to some fans of Brazilian fans on Twitter, Paula Fernandes will sing with Shania during her concert at the Calgary Stampede on July 9. There is a possibility of a duet being released within a few months, probably in March. These are just rumors. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

It could be that either one is doing some vocals (either lead or background) on the others album. We'll see. It is just taking forever, haha!

Maybe Paula Fernandes is planning to do a crossover here. She's already worked with big names in Nashville. The first Brazilian country singer in the U.S.; that's a nice thought.

What ever happened to the planned duet (remake of You're Still the One) between Shania and Paula Fernandes? They already recorded it. It would be nice if that was included in the Vegas DVD.

According to Portuguese Wikipedia, Paula Fernandes has a "solid international career singing duets with Colombian artist Juanes and American artist Taylor Swift. Her concerts sell out internationally in nations such as the UK, Italy, Switzerland, the United States and others. She has one of the most important musical careers in Brazil." Fernandes is known as a Brazilian country singer, but has recently been collaborating with international pop artists. Her music is going in the MPB or Popular Brazilian Music vein recently. Although I am not Brazilian, I have Brazilian friends.

Paula's releasing a new album in September, Encontros pelo Caminho or Encounters Along the Way. According to the article, "it will include duets with international artists and there will be surprises in the Portuguese edition of the album. She will begin her tour in Lisbon, Portugal in November. Fernandes is the sole producer of the upcoming album and will direct her concerts for the first time. She will incorporate elements of nature and her personal life into the her performances using virtual technology." That's similar to the Still the One performances...

Paula's timeline bears some similarities to Shania's. We'll see what comes out of this.

Paula singing YSTO. Her English singing accent is not so noticeable in this video. She normally sings in Portuguese. Could this be a sign of a crossover?

Shania and Paula's "You're Still The One" duet leaked this morning in Brazil on an amatuer radio station. Someone recorded it on their cell phone. The audio quality is TERRIBLE but here it is:

Now that I had the chance to listen to the full version, I revised some of my comments. The new version sounds sweet and has a bit of a Latin pop/sertaneja feel a little reminiscent of Roberto Carlos meets Brazilian country. He is known as the King in Brazil (and the King of Latin music overall), not unlike George Strait in the U.S. Their voices blend very well together. The Portuguese translation's tricky because it deviates from the original, but it gives the song a deeper meaning. Perhaps this was done to make the lyrics match the beat. For example, one of Paula's verses sounds like she is saying, "I was with you in darkness all the way through. And I saw you through the darkness (meaning dark period)." But at times it sounds like Shania's voice is smaller than before, which is rather unfortunate. On the flip side, her mature and deepened voice is still pleasing to the ear. I can't wait to download it when it becomes available. I may consider buying Paula's music. It's been a while since I bought "new" music.

Have been ordering Fernande's CDs. Love her voice! Have no idea what she's saying. I predict she is the next Shania. Watch some of her shows on utube. The latest one rivals Shania at vegas!

You can use the Google Translator if her music comes with lyrics. Joyce's Brazilian and was around before I was born and she's still around. Speaking of lyrics, Paula really changed her part of "YSTO." I don't like it. Here is what Paula's translation came out to be when she sings in Portuguese:

Have mixed feelings about this. Great that Shania as the "elder" stateswoman is lending a hand to the younger generation of female singers, but this song is so old. Would be nice if they were recording a duet of a new Shania song or one that was 1-2 years old. Dusting off and singing a classic more like it. With that said, they sound good together. Shania's voice will most likely never be the same as when she once recorded this, but it still sounds nice.

Thanks. Portuguese is not my native language and pick up bits here and there. I found this http://www.shaniatwain.com.br/Index.php/vaza-youre-still-the-one-dueto-entre-shania-twain-e-paula-fernandes/. This helps with the translation to Spanish, which is similar to Portuguese, but has key tenses that are different from each other. When translated to Spanish, I think that Paula changed the lyrics to fit in with Shania's new marriage to Fred (when Paula sings of waiting lonely and in darkness) and also reflect on their friendship as well (when she sings about distance not being a factor in their relationship). IMHO, this is Shania's way of revising a painful history. However, there is also the possibility that the revised lyrics were to Paula's liking in her native language.

In the 2000's, Mexican singer Rogelio Martínez released a Spanish remake of YSTO retitled it "Y Sigues Siendo Tú." I wasn't even aware until I came across Shania Twain remakes on YouTube. The Spanish translation is much more truer to Shania's lyrics. His genre of music is banda, Mexico's "country" music. Only that their country music has a violent and dark side not unlike gangsta rap and the blues. It's fascinating beyond compare that Shania's music caught on in other country music circles outside of the U.S. If only Nashville would open their minds to country's global presence and catch on.

My personal opinion of YSTO (2014) is mixed, but not in a bad way, interestingly enough. Because I listen to all kinds of music (e.g. Jamaican, French, Europop, Latin Pop and Rock, Gospel, Country and etc...), I can conceive the notion that two artists of different backgrounds would record a duet. It was a sweet and refreshing surprise to see Shania pick a singing partner who is virtually unknown in our neck of the woods. Had she chosen a Top 40 artist, it would feel predictable and disappointing. This could mean that Shania's new music may be something of a surprise.

Shania probably knows that she has a large and loyal following in Brazil. In fact, when Don't! was released, it was used in America, a top Brazilian soap in 2005. That same soap was later retransmitted to Spanish speaking audiences in 2009, which means only more residual royalties for Shania. It is very rare for Latin soaps to use songs by English speaking artists to lead their series, let alone country singers. On another note, Brazil's currency's been very strong lately and rivals the U.S. dollar (2 to 1, virtually unheard of for South America).

i like the duet very much. To me it does sound fresh and their voices blend. By the way Shania is already very popular in Brazil despite never touring there. If she dragged her butt there for a concert she would play to massive crowds.

Love it! I love all these BTS clips. I want more like this one, above. Shania's voice is definitely different, but I like it. It's raw, and almost like "When You Kiss Me." I know Corey did a lot of work on the Up! album. (Mastering, mixing, etc...). I also read a Brazilian article (translated of course) that said this duets album will be the first album Paula has ever produced on her own. So, I guess we know the producer. I will post the article here, if I find it again. I wonder if Corey will play a big part in the next Shania album. What does everyone think of this clip?

I also like that she sings Portuguese (not thrilled about lyric change) but the fact that she is singing in Portuguese is amazing to me.  Now, we know she can still sing, we know she can still perform live. NOW, it's time for a new album. 

Also, was glad to see that Shania was so welcoming to Paula. I have not been impressed with Paula's impressions of Shania (which are all over YouTube). However, Paula and Shania's voices fit so well together on this song. Paula obviously is a big fan (which may seem obsessive at times when you watch Paula's cover versions on YouTube). I am a fan of the official release. Was really thinking this was going to be the first thing I didn't like. 

Now, even if Shania were to release a new version of YSTO solo, I would be happy. I know this wont get any airplay in the US or Canada, but hopefully it's a smash in Brazil. Like many Brazilian fans have said, Paula is huge over there. Shania still is as well. We shall see how this does.

I wouldn't say that Paula's obsessed. In North America, there is the tendency to be more individualistic, which means that covers are not as embraced. In Latin American cultures, covering the classics is commonplace because it is paying tribute. I wouldn't doubt it if Shakira's Spanish songs start getting covered in a few years by younger artists. It's tradition.

Well said goodlookingkevy! Shania bestowed the highest honor that a songwriter could upon another artist. That's awesome! This could mean that she's finally healed (as best as possible) and may be finally ready to move on to better things in her career. She's always been a global artist and maybe this time she's focusing her energies on the Latin American market now that many of their currencies are strong (e.g. Brazil, Peru and Mexico). There are billionaires in Mexico these days (Carlos Slim). Latin fans are very loyal, like country fans.

Never thought about it that way. It is absolutely true that it is Shania's song. She had to be behind every decision. Makes sense. I'm just glad she's singing again. (In the studio, that is).
