New Q&A: Shania Twain says she’s ready to extend her residency at Caesars Palace

Shania Twain says she’s ready to extend her residency at Caesars Palace

By Robin Leach | December 5, 2013 | 12:21 p.m.

Superstar Shania Twain says she’s having such a great time in Las Vegas that she’s ready to renew her contract at Caesars Palace into 2015.

“I’d like to. I think I’m ready to do that,” she told me. “We’ve just passed our first anniversary here. It went by so quickly, and I’d be thrilled to carry on.”

Shania signed a two-year deal for her Colosseum concerts with an expiration date of December 2014.

She will be Opportunity Village’s grand marshal at Saturday’s Great Santa Run starting downtown at Fremont Street Experience.

My Q+A with Shania started with her decision to support O.V.

It may be very windy, cold and maybe even snowing Saturday morning.

Well, I’ll still be there with bells on, but I’m not going to ride a horse that day. I was invited to become the grand marshal, and it’s a real privilege to have been able to say yes. One more thing to participate in; I believe very much in charity, and the cause is great, and they do such an incredible job with the whole situation.

This is the ninth year that people are coming out to run. I’ve got my own Shania team. It’s just great fun; it’s fun to be participating. It feels great, and it’s a great time of year to get involved and be generous. Every day, there are people joining all the time.

I’ve got some immediate people from my own group here who are going to run. I’ve got three band members, a dancer, my sister and my husband are going to run, so that’s great!

Have you been to Opportunity Village and the Magical Forest yet?

I haven’t been up there, but I’ve heard about it, so I will definitely make a visit. The whole thing is great the way they organized it. I’m very inspired by it. I’m just getting started with my own foundation, so it’s inspiring to see what others are doing.

It will be quite an overwhelming sight when you arrive Saturday morning to see 10,000 and more Santa-suited runners on Fremont Street. It’s a very moving experience to meet the emotional, heartwarming adults and young adults that O.V. serves.

I can imagine. I’m looking very, very forward to it. I’m grateful to be a part of it and be participating. I can feel the wonderful spirit of it just talking about it. It gets you into a really great spirit.

It’ll be fun. Wrap up warm — very warm!

I’ll put a couple of warm layers on and stay warm. I want to stay around and cheer everybody on, too. I’ve got my team running out there, so it’s going to be great.

Are you having a fun pre-holiday season before you head off back to the Bahamas?

We’re going to have a nice evening together on Dec. 13 with the whole crew. AEG is putting together a lovely gathering for all of us so we can all share our Christmas farewell combined with the first anniversary. On Dec. 14, I’ve got a charity event that I’m having in my private apartment at Caesars Palace to raise money for my charity before we head off for Christmas. That’s exciting, as well, so this visit is going to end with a bang.

And are you looking forward to the New Year? When do you return?

I come back Jan. 22. It’s a very short turnaround. I go away for Christmas, then come right back. I look forward to it; I like the shorter breaks. I’m having a great time, and it’s been a great run. The last one was so fantastic. Every night is like a Friday or Saturday night at our show. Even on a Tuesday night, I wonder what spirit people are going to be, but they’re always so fun. They always make it feel like a weekend.

Have you picked your new album producer yet?

I haven’t, but I’m in research mode; I’m doing a lot of research. I’m just very cautious and want to be prepared before I start meeting people in person. I’m one of these people; I’m a little bit insecure in diving into things I don’t understand very well. It’s a whole other world. I don’t really want to pick anybody predictable, either.

That’s an interesting challenge. Nobody predictable. It’s like flying unsafe.

Yeah, you know I want to do something different. I always want to be original; that’s always what I wanted to do. Mutt [Robert “Mutt” Lange, her former producer and husband] was very unpredictable. That was a very original combination, and I work well that way in contrasting situations. I think you can get some interesting things in a more experimental environment. There’s so much more discovery that way.

And anymore thoughts on contract renewal?

Well, I’d like to. I think I’m ready to do that. I’m having such a great time! You know we’ve already just passed our first anniversary here. It went by very quickly, and I’d be thrilled to carry on.

That’s great news. Congratulations! We should celebrate that Saturday morning with the Santas! Do you have a holiday wish to extend to all of our readers and a New Year’s resolution for yourself?

I will just share my own resolution for everyone else to at least consider or maybe find some inspiration. This year, and for the rest of my life, I really want to start living. … I don’t want to say living in the moment because it sounds so overused these days, but I just want to live in happiness every day and make it a point to do just that. So that’s what I’m going to do: happy every day. A big fat Merry Christmas to all of you, and love and happiness in the New Year!

Shania has performances at Caesars on Dec. 7-8, 10-11 and 13-14. She returns from Jan. 22 through Feb. 15.

No producer yet. Still researching. And a contract renewal for Vegas. What does that all equal? She will not be putting out a new album this decade and never will she be touring around the country again. Sad. Such a waste.

Thats great news and it gives fans who haven't seen it yet an opportunity to go and see such a remarkable show and a brilliant performer like Shania. I am so proud of her. I just love her so much, I cant wait to see the show again. But on the other hand I am a little sad that there is no sign of a new album. It's been so so long since there has been anything new out. It would be nice to hear some new stuff.

I know she will come out with an album soon. I believe in her 100%. She just wants it to be perfect and once she finds that perfect one it will be perfect.
