Behind the Scenes of Celine Dion's High-Flying Vegas Shoot

Celine Dion redefines the meaning of "go big or go home."
"I don't like to do things that are easy," Dion tells PEOPLE. "I like to do things that are hard."
So when the singer, 46, was asked to be part of PEOPLE's exclusive Las Vegas portfolio – which features the biggest names in music and their ongoing residencies at Caesars Palace – she got an idea.
In behind-the-scenes video footage, Dion gets lifted 18 feet into the air to pose on the hotel's replica of Michelangelo's David.
"I don't know if anyone else went into David's arms but if I am the first, I am very honored," she says.
For more eye-catching photos from the portfolio – which includes Elton John, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain – check out this week's issue of PEOPLE.

Shania is photographed onstage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with her white horse Rizonte. Shania is wearing a fleshtone/peach mermaid type dress covered with beads. I'll see if I can take a picture with my digital camera. I don't have a scanner.

Nice photo. Thanks for sharing. Glad Ramon has these horses trained so well. In the picture, Shania is in exactly the right position to get hit in her face by that horse :P. He could knock her head off if he wanted to. Amazing to see what a great job Ramon is doing with those horses.

I don't know why that made me laugh, but it did. It's true though. Great photo. Love it.

The Fantastic Four: Caesars Palace Las Vegas Headliners Strike A Glamorous Pose For “People” Magazine
Posted Friday, June 13, 2014 by Emma Trotter
The four resident artists that perform rotating show schedules at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace don’t even need last names. Las Vegas headliners Elton, Rod, Celine and Shania are part of an iconic grouping of A-list musical talent, and sell out shows almost nightly year after year. Whether it’s Rod’s rockin’ show or Shania’s country flavor, fans clamour to see these diverse, fan favorite stars and repeatedly visit their shows time after time.
In a rare collaboration, all four teamed up to participate in the “Sing City” feature story in the June 16 issue of “People” magazine, complete with over-the-top photo shoots and only-in-Vegas moments. Here are some tidbits from the colorful shoot and interviews—plus inside info you’ll only get here.
Rod Stewart It’s not every day a photo shoot is set up with Rod Stewart and showgirls in the middle of a private ket tarmac. But the “Rod Stewart: The Hits.” headliner looked debonair in his photo, with beautiful “Jubilee” performers on his arm and a baby blue suit. Even some images with his signature soccer ball made the cut. The photos were taken at a local private airport with one of the Caesars private planes at the designated Caesars hangar. Fun fact? As the showgirls were being transported in a golf cart, the high winds weather caused their feathers to fly (literally) everywhere en route to the jet. Only in Vegas. Best quote: “They treat me like Elvis. And it’s a great place to party.”
Shania Twain Animal lover Shania Twain is the only one of the four to feature animals in her show, so naturally she posed next to one of two horses that share some stage time in her “Shania: Still The One” spectacle. Getting to show off both her nature-loving roots and diva side, she donned a stunning glitzy gown by Mikael D. while horsing around with her beloved Rizonte. Best quote: “Vegas is a unique town. You can do anything here.”
Elton John Elton John is synonymous with over-the-top allure, which he’s channeled into both his “Million Dollar Piano” spectacle and the luxe new champagne bar he opened with partner David Furnish. Fizz, next door to The Colosseum, is all gold and glamour with expensive art and premium bubbly, making it the perfect showcase for his People photo. John personally requested the “Jubilee” showgirls to pose with him, but the shoot date was set for the opening night debut of the revamped, modernized “Jubilee.” To accomodate, the photo had to be snapped quickly so the performers could get back to Bally’s in time. Best quote: Says Furnish, “Fizz is an extension of the way Elton and I entertain at home.”
Celine Dion Celine Dion is The Colosseum’s original queen bee, and wanted to do something totally out of the box for her photo. What better way to promote her Caesars Palace show, “Celine,” than to sit on the shoulders of the hotel’s famous Statue of David? The idea came from Dion herself, and it took a lot of moving parts to put it together. Being that the statue stands 18 feet tall, a truss system had to be built over it to hoist the diva to the top.
Thankfully, that company, Foy Enterprises, had worked with Dion on her first Caesars Palace show “A New Day…” which already had a harness custom fit for her. Once the truss was built, a stand-in model helped the photographer to do test shots so everything could be set ahead of Dion’s arrival. One snafu? The top of David’s head was quite dusty and had to be quickly cleaned by the time Dion finished her show that night. Sporting a Lanvin dress, Dion showed up ready to get to work, and was professional, fun and gracious to everyone on set. Best quote: “I want [my shows] to be very grand. And iconic.”
