Exclusive: Shania Twain opens up about marriage, being a mom and giving back

She’s been performing since she was eight years old, but Shania Twain still gets stage fright, she admitted during the opening off her newest Shania Kids Can Clubhouse for at-risk kids at Sir Winston Churchill Public School in Brampton, Ont.

“I’m better at singing!” she laughs.

Perhaps she’s nervous because the moment means so much to her. Shania, 49, who grew up in poverty and was often bullied, tells us it’s her mission to provide these children with an escape from the same experiences.

That’s why she and the Dilawri Foundation have teamed up to open a total of four clubhouses in Canadian schools this year to provide students with food, academic support, counselling and more.

“You are living my dream,” the mother of one told students. “I wanted the program to exist when I was your age. So I’m so excited for you. And I would do it all over again if I could do it like this.”

After her exciting announcement, we caught up with the devoted mom and wife – she’ll celebrate her fourth wedding anniversary with Frédéric Thiébaud in January – for an exclusive chat about her family, charity work and leaving Las Vegas behind in our new issue of Hello! Canada – on newsstands Thursday!

We aren't going to have a new album anytime soon. Maybe not even next year. Shania says she'll be in the studio most of 2015. On the other hand, it sounds like she is in fact planning a world "tour" (with obviously no new music). Shania says she plans on doing more live international concerts like Calgary and Charlottetown, PEI. So how can she record an album and tour at the same time? Unless she's just going do a couple dates here and there. A couple concerts in the U.S., a couple in Canada, a couple in Europe, etc..

Taylor Swift officially made the switch from country to pop with her new album 1989 – and she has the blessing of "The Queen of Country Pop" herself.

"I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity," Shania Twain told "ET Canada" at the recent Bliss Ball in Toronto, which supports The Dilawri Foundation.

"[Taylor]'s a singer-songwriter-performer, she does it all ... the world is her oyster. She's young and she needs to just do whatever she's having fun at and I think everybody's loving it," said the singer, whose 1997 album, Come On Over, became the best-selling studio album of all time by a female act in any genre, as well as the best-selling country album of all time.

Twain, 49, is also currently working on a new album. "I've been doing a lot of writing over the last year and I'm getting into the studio now," she said, "I'll spend this whole year making the album."


I've seen the report in numerous places. I thought this place would be buzzing with excitement but nobody's mentioned it. Are we all scared to believe it after having our hopes dashed so many times?

Personally, I think this will actually happen now!

Country superstar Shania Twain reveals her three-year marriage to the jilted spouse of her ex-husband’s lover has finally brought her happiness.

In a rare candid interview, Shania – whose 1997 album “Come On Over” remains the best-selling country record of all time – gushed over Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebaud.

“Fred wears a lot of hats,” she told a reporter. “We travel a lot and are both very restless people who love variety.

“So being together a lot, it’s a very multi-dimensional life.”

Shania confessed that before meeting “Fred,” she “felt very insecure and inadequate.” Calling him “my partner,” she added: “(We) live our lives in tandem…We’re together a lot.”

The Canadian-born singer was married to producer Robert “Mutt” Lange – who produced four of her hit albums – for 14 years. Then she caught him having an affair with her BFF, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who was also the pair’s property manager at their home in Switzerland.

After Shania divorced Lange in 2008, she cried on the shoulder of Marie-Anne’s jilted hubby, and in a bizarre “wife swap,” they fell in love. They now split their time between Switzerland, the Bahamas and Las Vegas with their children – her son Eja, 13, with Lange, and Frederic’s 14-year old daughter, Johanna, with his ex-wife.

Shania described her life as “very busy and full” in the interview, and thanked Frederic for giving her happiness.

Frederic, a former executive with Nestle, most recently helped Shania open “Shania Kids Can Clubhouse” in her native Canada.Shania grew up dirt poor in Timmins, Ontario, and is now giving back to the community. Shania hasn’t toured since 2004, but says she’s working on a new studio album and plans to tour in 2015.

Shania Twain is in a good place in her life currently, but the country singer recently dished on a disturbing tale about her ex-husband. Although her 14-year marriage to Robert "Mutt" Lange ended in divorce, it was marred by deception and infidelity with her best friend. However, her relationship with new husband, Frederic Thiebaud, has been nothing short of bliss.

Sources from the National Enquirer report that the "Come Over" songstress talked recently about her living hell with two people who deceived her and took advantage of her love and loyalty. Throughout the rare interview, Shania Twain spoke fondly about her second husband, who she describes as "partner."

Twain tells of the dark time back in 2008 when she caught Lange having an affair with her "best friend," Marie-Anne Thiebaud. The discovery was painful to Shania, but she found solace, of all places, with her BFF's husband. Mutually hurt by the affair, Shania and Frederick soon became romantically-involved.

And after the country chanteuse's divorce from her Robert, she and Thiebaud married years later. And despite their busy schedules, their marriage is stronger than ever. Shania says they balance their blended families between three homes, and it's working like a well-oiled machine.

Shania is ending her two-year residency on Las Vegas Strip, according to Las Vegas Magazine. The Shania: Still the One concert series is winding down at Caesars Palace, and will end on December 13 during the National Finals Rodeo competition. Twain leaves behind a legacy that puts her in contemporary rare-air with the likes of Cher, Bette Midler, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion and Elton John.

Shania Twain's divorce and stressful love triangle proves one thing: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And while her departure from live shows in Vegas is coming to the end of the road, many have fond memories of her debut in November of 2012 when Shania made her grand entrance on a horse along the Strip. Some memories are priceless.
