Hi was just thinking about what the new material might be like on the new Shania album and thought we might want to take a look back at the comparison between Any man of Mine written with Mutt and This Man Of Mine written without him.

That song is more than 20 years old. I assume that her songwriting and way of thinking has changed since then.

If "Today is Your Day" is an indication than we should be worried.....

That song is the most simplistic boring song of her career. Well, besides "Shoes".....but Mutt shares some blame on that atrocity...

Actually, Shoes was not written by Shania and Mutt. It was a bit changed by them but the song was wrriten by Tammy Hyler, Joie Scott and Kim Tribble and recorded by Loretta Lynn's Daughters in 1999. It was mentioned on this board once but I cannot remember the thread now.

But I have to agree on the fact that Shania's lyrics without Mutt sound unfinished. Remember even The Complete Limelight Sessions. But I try to stay positive because even since Today Is Your Day some time has passed and I hope Shania's producers will help her to make the music soulful but not boring for the listeners.

Here is the thread. It's kind of confusing because on the Desperate Housewives soundtrack CD it lists Shania & R.J. Lange (Mutt) along with Tammy, Joie and Kim as the writers of "Shoes". Then it says produced and arranged by Robert John "Mutt" Lange.

Maybe Mutt and Shania produced Shania's version of the song. I found this on songwriters database. There are only 3 authors. I cannot give you the direct link as it is through the search but you can try search by the performer's name: https://www.ascap.com

 No need to worry as long as there is Taylor Swift with her exciting, meaningful and inspirational songs about her love life and her ex boyfriends lol.

As much as I like to hate Mutt Lange because of what he did to Shania, his effect on her production values and image was obviously a powerful one. I suppose it shouldn't be much of a surprise that when you take away one of the most successful record producers/sound engineers in the history of rock, things will noticeably change.

Mutt is awesome professionally. He's just has been an ass to Shania as a husband. But the man is brilliant when it comes to music.

I don't think Today is a very strong song, but it has a deeper meaning to it. I am not happy with the way it turned out, since I think that the lyrics and the story behind it don't fit in the 'pop-setting' they released to song in. This song should have been fragile and acoustic if you ask me.

But we'll see what happens. I can't wait to hear new music. Only then we'll be able to judge if Shania has good song writing skills without Mutt.

I liked the Limelight Sessions but I can't stand TIYD. And honestly I'll be surprised if she ever actually does release a new album. She should have been working with Kevin Churko while she was in Vegas. It would have made the most sense. But maybe she doesn't want to sound like that anymore, maybe she wants to suck now & sound like every other song on the radio...is that even proper wording for songs that recieve no radio play?
