Shania Twain Dishes on New Album and Reveals When We'll Hear the First Single!

EXCLUSIVE: Shania Twain Dishes on New Album and Reveals When We'll Hear the First Single!

By Tina Smithers Peckham | Entertainent Tonight | April 24, 2017

Get ready for the summer of Shania Twain!

The country music superstar is gearing up to release new music, and she gave ET's Sophie Schillaci all the juicy details Monday night on the red carpet shortly before her appearance on NBC's The Voice.

"I have a new single coming out in June," Twain, 51, said. "So I'm kicking off the summer with a new song, and then I'm finishing the summer with the release of the album."

The "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" singer added that it's going to be "the best summer ever!"

"It's been such a long time since I put out a studio album," she told ET of the years since the release of 2002's Up!. "I wrote the whole album myself, so it's a real statement of independence."

Twain, who is headlining the Stagecoach Festival -- a country music version of Coachella -- this weekend, said she plans to debut the single on Saturday at the event.

The GRAMMY winner added that she was initially nervous about the album, but now that it's complete, she feels "relieved."

"Creative independence is something that I haven't had in a really long time," Twain admitted. "It was really scary taking that leap. The album's done, and I feel really good. The first single is so optimistic and hopeful -- regardless of how bad life could get. I really needed that message."

Songwriting and making music is "like therapy" for Twain, who also sees it as a form of self-expression.

"It's my drug, my emotional outlet," she stated. "Whether it's sadness, anger, happiness, inspiration, whatever -- it all comes out best in my songwriting."

Shania said she'll be singing "Swinging With My Eyes Closed" and "Life's About To Get Good" at Stagecoach. It sounds like she's talking about "Life's About To Get Good". What do you think?

Yes, definitely "Life's About To Get Good". Last week she said the song has an optimistic chorus so it has to be it.

I also wonder how she plans to promote the single during the summer...

I agree. The optimistic content that she was describing, I think definitely says that the first single to the album will be "Life's About To Get Good". I wish the woman interviewing her would have just asked what the name of the song is. I think Shania would have told her if she just asked! Its a real bummer that we now have to wait until June for a lead single :( That's over a month from now. But something tells me that we will somehow hear the song from the stagecoach performance, even if its just on someones smart phone!

Yes I'm positive we'll hear the song waaaayyyy before June. And I can't wait.
There are plenty of videos on Youtube of her RTC Tour, so someone will definitely record the show, especially those two new songs

I'm in Heaven! Shaniatwainbrazil just posted some lyrics of "I'm Alright":

You let me go
You had to have her
You told me so
I died faster.

I was wondering if Shania and Adam would discuss their shared history with Mutt Lange. Interesting that Shania said that Adam recorded at a studio at her home in Switzerland - that would have been right after Shania and Mutt broke up and I believe the Maroon 5 album was the first thing Mutt produced after the divorce. Cool that Adam got to know Eja.

I just so hope that the first single is not some fluffy drivel like "Today is Your Day". I became a huge fan of hers for her sassy, rock sounding, take no prisoners bad a*s music. I hope that it wasn't soley Mutt providing that sass and grit. With "Today is Your Day" and songs like "Shoes" we are in the sappy A/C territory....

Just worried because she keeps talking about how optimistic her new music is and positive. And that sounds super boring to me.

Well, she did say to be prepared for a change. The album is described as dark and deep. Her songwriting is deeper and more emotional. Her time with Mutt was spent creating this sassy image and she has made it very clear that the new music will not be the same as her old sound. I don't look at that as fluffy, I look at is as deep songwriting. The songs we are used to are fun, tongue and cheeky, catchy songs. But her former music as not as deep when it came to the songwriting. I look forward to hearing something different from her, something more deep.

I don't mind if the change is from sassy to dark--that would be totally cool. But I can't tolerate fluff like "Today is your Day" that song is God awful and sounds like it was written for those horrible Lifetime Women's movies....same goes with the horrendous "Shoes".

Just worried about the lack of Mutt and Shania doing 100% of the songwriting now--he was a genius at songwriting (for many, many artists) and greatly improved her songs (the original Any Man of Mine was pretty bad before he rewrote it). But we shall see soon enough.

I am as worried as Butters. And I have to admit I didn't like the 4 lines from I'm Alright. I hope full song is better, but the published lines don't sound as a good song really.
