I'm not criticizing Shania and I only meant she will sing this way on TV. It takes her 4 hours to warm up and then to warm down and it's definitely too much for a 3 minutes performance.
Almost everyone uses a bit of playback during concerts these days so it's not a problem.
I have her whole Hamilton concert on DVD, the very first date of the Up! Tour and even then she used playback for the chorus of "C'est La Vie".
I think this is the way Shania will sing from now on... over the studio version of her songs. I guess it's a comfort zone for her as her voice is so unpredictable these days... It's sad but at least I'm glad she's taking the chances to perform on TV again after all this time.
people are so overplaying this voice thing lol were you even around during her UP promo? lol she lipsynced many performances and used backing track, Shania even shamelessly lipsynced at the CMA awards on party for two and nobody lipsyncs there lol We all know Shania can sing great live acoustic from her early years but she has lipsynced many performances when she started singing more pop oriented songs. Stop overreacting to her so called voice change. She has felt better lipsyncing and using backing tracks for many years before her so called lyme disease lol
For the first time I agree with you.
And by the way, am I right about Today Show in June? She sang two of her older songs live and she used backing track for the new two. It has nothing to do with warming up I guess.
just the first time 🤤😲 I think she probably sang some part live and some not on her older songs on Today show. i wish she would sing with just her and her guitar sometimes because that will show she really has a unique voice. When she sings COAT OF MANY COLORS she sounds great live. She has resorted to lipsyncing and using backing tracks on her pop songs for many many years now
Yes she uses it a lot. During vegas residency and recent tour many songs were (partially) lipsynched on pre-recorded live vocals. On the today show besides parts of the new songs even the high bits of that don't impress me much were lipsynched (the "don't get me wrong I think you're alright" bit). Having said that. The editing of the strictly performance was rubbish. She sang parts live, some parts mimed on pre-recorded live vocals/backing track and the bridge is even from the actual recording. No idea what they were thinking in the post-editing. Still she is going up the itunes charts with the song, already at #56 in overall chart and steady #3 on uk country downloads
Shania was on "Lorraine" (talk show in UK) this morning. She was interviewed by Dan Wootton.
Shania Twain opens up about devastating disease that almost ended her career
By Nicola Agius | September 11, 2017
Shania Twain has opened up about her battle with Lyme disease.
During an appearance on ITV's Lorraine, the US star revealed she contracted the disease after finding a tick on her skin while she was horseback riding in the woods.
Immediately afterwards, she sought medical attention and was treated right away.
However, the full extent of the damage caused by the condition wasn't clear until some time afterwards.
"I was clear of any immediate effects," Shania explained. "But then I started having problems controlling my voice.
"At the time, I just figured I needed a break from music to rest. But that break became an extended break because my voice never came back. I lost a serious pleasure in my life. I believed I would never sing again."
Every now and again, Shania was able to sing but her voice was so "unreliable" that she wasn't able to perform or return to the recording studios.
The star was then advised to see a neurologist by doctors.
"I was told that it was a permanent injury – but I still did it, I made another album," she continued. "I am so grateful for this because it was a huge challenge to get singing again."
Shania's new album Now (which is available to preorder now) is her "most personal yet".
The record delves into what happened behind-the-scenes when her 17-year marriage to producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange ended.
The couple, who have 16-year-old son Eja together, divorced after he allegedly had an affair with her best friend.
"It was one of the most devastating things that has ever happened to me," added Shania. "But I did find love again. The journey is life through this album, full of highs and lows."
