Shania Twain, Britt Robertson Join K.J. Apa in 'I Still Believe' for Lionsgate

By Etan Vlessing | The Hollywood Reporter | May 13, 2019
Country music superstar Shania Twain, Britt Robertson, Melissa Roxburgh and Nathan Dean Parsons have joined Lionsgate's I Still Believe, the follow-up to I Can Only Imagine, the 2018 indie hit.
Twain will play Terry Camp, the mother of Jeremy Camp, a true-life Christian music mega-star on a journey of love and loss and to be played by K.J. Apa. Gary Sinise was earlier cast as his father, Tom Camp.
Other new casting includes Robertson to play Melissa Henning, Jeremy Camp’s love interest and wife, while her older sister will be played by Roxburgh. Parsons will play Jeremy and Melissa’s rock star friend, who mentors Jeremy, but who also has feelings for Melissa.
Jon Erwin, Andrew Erwin and producing partner Kevin Downes are back for the faith-based film, which marks the Erwin brothers’ first project coming out of their first-look film and TV deal with Lionsgate. The Erwins will direct I Still Believe from a script by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn.
Camp is a Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter who has sold more than 5 million albums and has toured some 36 countries. He has received numerous accolades, including four RIAA-certified gold albums, two American Music Awards nominations, multiple ASCAP awards, 38 No. 1 songs, a gold digital single ("There Will Be a Day"), a multi-platinum DVD and was named in Billboard’s Christian Artist of the Decade chart (No. 2).
Twain is a five-time Grammy winner, with more than 90 million albums sold worldwide and U.S. sales topping 34.5 million. Earlier this year, she made her acting debut in the movie Trading Paint, opposite John Travolta. Twain previously appeared in the 2004 feature film I Heart Huckabee for a brief cameo as herself. Robertson starred on the Shonda Rhimes ABC series For The People and she plays the title role in Girlboss on Netflix.
Roxburgh stars in NBC’s Manifest and also plays the role of CIA officer Thea in the CW series Valor, while Parsons stars as Max Evans in The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico.
I Still Believe, produced by Lionsgate and Kingdom Studios, starts production in Alabama in late May, and is set for a March 20, 2020 release. The project underscores Lionsgate’s commitment to the faith-based genre, which also loosely includes Hacksaw Ridge and The Shack.
I Can Only Imagine earned more than $80 million worldwide last year. Twain is repped by CAA. Robertson is repped by Innovative Artists.
Roxburgh is represented by the Gersh Agency. Parsons is represented by Innovative Artists.
Shania Twain signs on for Jeremy Camp biopic 'I Still Believe'
Shania Twain has signed on to portray the mother of Christian music star Jeremy Camp in a new biopic.
WENN - World Entertainment News Network | Calgary Herald | May 13, 2019
The "That Don’t Impress Me Much" hitmaker has been cast as Terry Camp, opposite Gary Sinise as the singer’s father, Tom, and Riverdale’s K.J. Apa as Grammy nominee Jeremy.
I Still Believe chronicles Jeremy’s rise to stardom in the early 2000s, while struggling with his first wife Melissa Lynn Henning-Camp’s cancer diagnosis – she died in 2001, less than four months after the couple wed.
Actress Britt Robertson will play Melissa in the faith-based film, which is named after the first song Camp wrote following her passing.
Production is due to begin in Alabama later this month, ahead of a March 2020 release.
Camp has since gone on to find love again with South African singer Adrienne Liesching, who he married in 2003. The couple shares three children.
Just shortly after she became a bonafide movie star in the role of a lifetime alongside the one and only John Travolta, this country music princess is back on set – getting ready for her second major movie role!
Released in February 2019, Shania Twain‘s very first major movie role as an actress came when she was cast as “Becca” – the love interest of Sam Munroe (John Travolta) for his film about a family divided by racing and competition, Trading Paint.
The movie was a unique one, for certain. And it told a story about a veteran racer and his son. Between personal and business conflicts, the two end up going separate ways – and out of it comes a bitter competition between the two…until they realize the truth and come out stronger on the other end.
Twain’s role is as a supporting actress and highlights her own ability to put on a performance – one that she’s shown us many times on stage. It’s clear that her time spent as an entertainer has prepared her for acting in a unique way…and now she’s taking on a whole new role.
This time, in a Christian film.
Based on the life of Christian superstar Jeremy Camp, this new biopic looks to speak his truth about a journey of love, loss, and ultimately – faith.
Lionsgate Studios who will be producing the film announced on Monday, May 13th, 2019 that Shania Twain would be joining this all-star cast of actors for the upcoming film – set to be released in March 2020.
Titled after his song “I Still Believe,” the biographical movie will be directed by brothers Jon and Andrew Erwin and will star “Riverdale” actor KJ Apa as Camp, Gary Sinise as his father, and Twain as his mother.
We are excited about the first trailers to come out from this incredible story and talented stars – and we will be sure to let you know when they do!

Shania Twain and KJ Apa team up in Christian rock movie
New Zealand Herald | May 25, 2019
Kiwi mega-star KJ Apa is starring with country music legend Shania Twain in the new movie I Still Believe.
Apa has lead billing in the biopic, based on the life of Christian music star Jeremy Camp, which started filming in Alabama this week.
Twain, 53, and 21-year-old Apa are sure to have plenty to discuss in the "co-star icebreaker conversation".
In 2004, Twain bought Motatapu Station in the South Island for over $20 million and last December she performed at both ends of the country in her first New Zealand concerts, as part of her Now tour.
The multi-Grammy award winner will play Camp's mother Terry and Forrest Gump star Gary Sinise will play his father Tom.
Country music stars Britt Robertson, Melissa Roxburgh and Nathan Dean Parsons are also in the movie about Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Camp who has sold more than 5 million albums.
This week Camp posted a video online from the set to mark day one of filming. He has said he is honoured to have the Riverdale star playing him.
The movie is a dream combination of acting and music for Apa, whose role on Riverdale as Archie Andrews has seen him prove his music credentials in both singing and playing guitar.
Last week, he finished recording an album in Seattle with his Riverdale co-star Rob Raco and their band, Legend. In 2011, aged 14, he released a nine-track electric guitar album called The Third Room.
Last year he was a surprise hit when he took the stage with his guitar at Coachella during Norwegian DJ Kygo's set.

Apparently Shania's character name is spelled Teri, not Terry as has been printed in all the articles. She plays Jeremy Camp's mother, Teri Camp. https://www.instagram.com/stories/istillbelieve/
Jon Erwin, Andrew Erwin, and Kevin Downes—the creators of I Can Only Imagine—share their thoughts after two weeks of filming #IStillBelieve. (Shania is mentioned a couple times.)
So I did something SUPER COOL today, I was an extra in a movie scene with Shania Twain!!!! It was such a fun experience, and as usual Shania is the best ever. You guys catch me and her on the big screen for “I Still Believe” in theaters March 2020! #moviestar #shaniatwain
***I wonder if Shania is finished shooting her scenes. Especially now with her upcoming residency announcement followed by some kind of promotional/TV blitz.
This actor with special needs has finished shooting his scenes. He plays Jeremy Camp's brother.
What an experience of a lifetime and a what a challenge for mom to live up to, when Shania Twain plays my on screen mom! Also had to control my said real mom (aka Mum as she’s British) from breaking out in song behind the scenes. Not cool.
"ET Canada" just posted another part of their interview on Twitter. I uploaded it on YouTube.
Shania Twain is not only getting ready to return to Las Vegas, she's also taking a shot at making it big on the silver screen. The Queen of Pop Country is telling us all about starring alongside KJ Apa in the upcoming biopic "I Still Believe".
According to this article, "I Still Believe" will only be in theaters ONE day - March 20, 2020. I've never heard of a one-day theatrical release before. This must be another low-budget film that will only be shown in a few theaters like "Trading Paint".
#istillbelievemovie wrapped last week. We had such a talented cast + crew who worked tirelessly through the Alabama heat to make this film. Also a big shout out to the city of Mobile for their tremendous support of this film, we couldn’t have done it without you!
Shania Twain's New Movie Is Being Compared To "A Walk To Remember"
It also stars KJ Apa!
By Alyssa Goulart | Narcity | August 28, 2019
Remember when KJ Apa fed our Canadian souls with the video of his prank with Shania Twain? We're about to get more content just like that except now it's through the movie they both star in. The trailer was just released and people are already freaking out about it. They're comparing the real-life story to some iconic romantic drama's and we're here for it. The first trailer for Shania Twain'sI Still Believe movie was just released.
I Still Believe follows Jeremy Camp (KJ Apa), a Christian rocker who falls in love with Melissa Henning (Britt Robertson) who is battling ovarian cancer. Despite people's protests, the two get married even though Henning's diagnosis isn't hopeful.
Basically, this movie has all the makings for the perfect romantic movie that'll have us crying for days. People have already compared the movie to A Walk To Remember. I don't know about you but I'm also getting really strong The Notebook vibes.
Shania Twain plays Jeremy Camp's mother. The movie will feature both of their voices on the soundtrack and we can't wait for a potential epic duet. The film also stars Melissa Roxburgh and Gary Sinise.
***There will be music from Shania on the "I Still Believe" soundtrack??? That's the first we've heard anything about that. I guess we'll have to wait and see (or should I say listen).

'I Still Believe' movie aims to inspire viewers to ‘love beyond fear’ ('Heart of the Story' video)
By Jeannie Law | The Christian Post | November 30, 2019
Award-winning Christian singer Jeremy Camp is gearing up for the release of a movie about his life and a new clip released just in time for the holidays shows what the film’s creators and cast think people will take away from the inspiring story of love, loss and faith.
The biopic feature film “I Still Believe” chronicles the story of Camp’s first marriage to Melissa Lynn Henning-Camp, who died of ovarian cancer in 2001, less than a year after they were wed.
“This is a love that goes beyond fear, that goes beyond any doubt,” says singer Shania Twain who stars in the film and the “Heart of the Story” video clip that was released this week.
“That’s what this movie is about, lead actor KJ Apa adds, "it’s journeying through your biggest fear and coming out on the other side and still loving God.”
Twain plays the role of Camp's mother opposite actor Gary Sinise who portrays Camp's father. Actress Britt Robertson portrays Camp's late wife Melissa. The role of Camp is performed by New Zealander KJ Apa, who's best known for his role in the hit TV series “Riverdale.”
The trailer highlights Camp's journey to finding love, fame and his enduring faith in the midst of an unexpected tragedy. The clip kicks off with Apa as Camp performing at a Harvest Crusade where he stops and asks the audience to pray for healing over the “most special person” in his life, just a week after they discovered she had terminal cancer.
“Just the idea that he’s willing to endure whatever version of life that they get together, just because he wants to have every moment with her, that, to me, is romance,” Robertson says in the “Heart of the Story” clip.
“I hope people, after seeing the love between Jeremy and Melissa, think, ‘I hope that I could one day be in love like that,’” Apa adds.
Named after Camp’s popular song of the same name, the movie is an Erwin Brothers production, the same producers behind the blockbuster hit “I Can Only Imagine.” Jon Erwin, Andrew Erwin and producing partner Kevin Downes are hoping to follow the commercial success of their first biopic made about the life of Christian musician Bart Millard, although they never initially intended to do another music film.
The film was produced under the Erwins’ newly-formed studio Kingdom, in association with Lionsgate, and is scheduled for release on March 20, 2020.
Camp remarried 16 years ago to his wife, Adrienne, and the couple have three children together. Camp has lauded his wife for being his biggest supporter throughout the years and for supporting him in telling Melissa’s story.
"I Still Believe" Movie New Release Date - March 13, 2020
According to singer Jeremy Camp on Instagram, the release date for "I Still Believe" has been moved up one week from March 20, 2020 to March 13, 2020. This is most likely so Shania can attend the Red Carpet premiere and other press events before returning to Las Vegas for her "Let's Go!" residency show. Tonight is the final show of the first leg. The second leg begins March 13.
The "I Still Believe" official movie website is now online. It looks like the movie will be playing mainly in Regal movie theaters across the United States. There's no info where or if the movie will be playing in Canada.
