Makes complete sense though. The band and band members of maneskin have posted on socials about this poll. Since then she went back from 40-60% to 29-71%
Shania won't post because she's too nice and she loves Maneskin. Her audience is also older so votes less on Twitter.

The awards are a week from today. I don't see any reason why Shania wouldn't be announced and promoted with the other performers. So I highly doubt there will be a "surprise" announcement this week.

This will be a good album, Very little promotion which is sad. Not one awards performance at all. Bearly any TV or radio promotion. It hasn't even been released to Canadian radio. Just surprised is all. She can release whatever single but without promotion it will be difficult to sell. Regardless I will get the album because I love the music. Still wish the album/single would be promoted. Unfortunately not likely to happen.

Lionel Richie was presented the Icon Award at tonight's 2022 American Music Awards. Shania, Smokey Robinson, Katy Perry and Ne-Yo were part of the introductory video package. She was only on a few seconds. Shania said "He's got an iconic vision.... he's got the skill of interpreting emotions... he's played many roles in his career - producer, songwriter, singer... sitting with Lionel Richie is like sitting with a professor of all these elements of music art... I think his legacy will be music brilliance."

ABC didn't include the video package on YouTube.
