Kelsea Ballerini & Shania Twain Talk About Their New Team-Up on ‘Hole in the Bottle’ – Out Today!

By James Daykin | Lyric Magazine | November 13, 2020

Kelsea Ballerini and Shania Twain are this week’s guests on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country. The two singer-songwriters talk about their collaboration on Kelsea’s hit, “hole in the bottle.”

Kelsea describes how a mysterious email from “something Twain” led to her working with her idol, and Shania shares her admiration for Kelsea in the recording process and her originality in songwriting.

Kelsea Ballerini on “hole in the bottle” with Shania Twain

“I got an email from ‘something Twain,’ and I’m like, ‘Is this Shania?’ And, basically she had started the conversation of ‘Let’s do something together.’ And, I was just honored that she even thought of me, you know? And we just kind of went back and forth on a couple other ideas, and some songs, we’re just sending each other a ton of stuff. And then finally I was like, ‘Wait a second, I have this single, and it’s kind of catchy, and she could kill this. And what if she just added to the fire?’ But I was listening to all of these harmonies, and her ad-libs… every single thing that she sent me just going, ‘You know who you are, and what you contribute, and what you’re great at, and what makes you an icon.’ ”

Shania Twain on working with Kelsea Ballerini on “hole in the bottle”

“I mean, she’s very serious about her writing, but she really gets the balance between relatability and not getting all wrapped up in the seriousness. But… she was directing me all the way, it was really, really cute. She would send me little snippets of all the little things she wanted me to say and sing. They were like, little tiny recordings. ‘Ok, so Shania, sing this, if you wanna sing this. If you like that, sing that. But do it your own way!’ Anyway, it was adorable… She’s actually a really good director, and she knows what she wants, and I really respected that.”

Shania Twain Challenges Women To ‘Force Yourself Into Your Comfort Zone, In Your Own Skin’

By Shakiel Mahjouri | ET Canada | November 18, 2020

Even though Shania Twain is a beloved global superstar, she is still working on being comfortable in her own skin.

Twain caught up with Apple Music’s “The Kelleigh Bannen Show” and opened up about a variety of topics, from her self-confidence to her new collaboration with Kelsea Ballerini.

“Well, I would say that I’ve grown into that, and I’m still growing into it. Well, I would be lying if I said I was always comfortable in my own skin,” Twain told Bannen. “But what I like to share with people, with women, with the audience is that you’ve got to go there. You have to go into that danger zone of discovering yourself, and accepting yourself for you who you are.”

“It’s not been an easy journey,” she continued. “And I would like to say that, through my music, if it’s holding somebody else’s hand to say, screw it or whatever, I’m just going to let my hair down, and have some fun, accept who I am. And I would say almost force yourself into your comfort zone, in your own skin. It’s not easy. It’s a challenge.”

Twain recently worked with Ballerini on the song “Hole in the Bottle”. The Canadian country icon was impressed with Ballerini’s confidence and command.

“She was directing me all the way. It was really, really cute,” Twain said. “So she would send me little snippets of all the little things she wanted me to say and sing.”

“They were little, tiny recordings of, ‘Okay, Shania, sing this. If you want to sing this, sing this. And if you like that, sing that, but do it your own way’. Anyway, it was adorable, but she’s actually a really good director and knows what she wants,” she shared. “And I really respected that.”
