I still believe she may use Boots and Hearts to introduce a lead single. However, I agree with Tommy that something may be going on. She says something to make everyone believe that the release of new music is eminent, but then she goes silent on the topic for months. Not the first time she has done this.
I have a few thoughts and I am in no way trying to come for her - just my observations and opinions:
I think there is a pretty good possibility that this upcoming album may be her last. She is approaching 60 and Lyme Disease and age have not been kind to her voice. She takes forever to release new music. 15 years from Up! to Now and 5+ years from Now to this new project. She'll be well into her 60s if she does ever release another album after this. I think she may release this album, go on tour in the spring and summer of 2023 and then I could see her semi-retiring, being in Vegas full time like Celine and occasionally releasing a single or doing a collaboration. I think she really wants this album to perform better than Now and may be waiting till it is perfect.
I also think her writing isn't as good without Mutt. They were able to come together and write catchy radio smash hits but I just don't see her doing that now especially after her last album. Now was all over the place with different producers and styles. To be honest, it wasn't a country-pop album or even a full on pop album like her previous albums. It was very much a indie pop album. If her new album sounds similar to Now, I do not think her record label and country radio will approve. I think her best option would be to take unreleased songs she wrote with Mutt from 2005-2008 and adapt them to the current state of her voice. I do not think she would ever do this though because it would probably involve working with Mutt again to a certain extent.
Curious if anyone else has floated the idea that any new music might be tied to the COO Diamond Edition? Shania's always talked about how many songs she wrote on the road during COO and Up tours, perhaps there may be some music tied to that.
I also have had a very reliable insider who provided me accurate info on Now, tell me the album was done with a lead single determined so I also am concerned that something may have come up... On a positive note though, something coming up isn't always bad, perhaps another great opportunity for collab or promotion was presented pushing around some timelines.
I think overall though, being a member on these boards for years and an avid Shania fan since 94, I am just grateful to see her on social media, doing collabs, and talking new music. There was a time during the "Why Not" series when I thought we would never get to see her live again or her name next to new music. Whatever Shania does or releases, regardless of the timeline, I am glad there is the possibility- that wasn't always the case.
Honestly though, even if we don't get new music from her anytime soon, I like that there's a lot of us here talking about possible new music from her. I feel like with a lot of artists who have been gone for a long time - a lot of the fans just give up hope completely and stop talking about new music but I like that us here continue to hope. Like for example, I feel like a lot of people have given up on Faith Hill releasing new solo music but I like that we aren't like that.
I agree with both of you. I’m just happy she’s working and creating. It’s exciting to think about what she’ll do next even if she were to retire from making albums.
And it’s not unreasonable to imagine that the new album’s release is scheduled to coincide with the anniversary of COO… anytime in September - November is great.
Kelsea Ballerini just announced her new album "Subject To Change" will be released September 23. So we know Shania's album won't be released in September. Hopefully the lead single will be out by then.
Assuming the "Not Just A Girl: The Highlights" compilation/greatest hits album on September 2 is true (which it probably is), that could push the new studio album back to early next year sometime with the lead single possibly being released later this year. Along with the Come On Over: Diamond Edition.

Assuming it's true, I wonder if "Not Just a Girl" was originally planned for the album or if it was always to be a one-off type of thing.
Apparently the song is planned for the new album. It's unknown if it will be used as lead single for the new album or just to promote the documentary and the greatest hits compilation.

I was thinking the GH album was just a unique strategy to promote the single along with the Netflix doc... but maybe you're right. Let's hope she surprises us.
In my opinion the new Greatest Hits album is for finishing her deal with universal music after two scrapped albums , and come on over diamond edition will be released by universal when she releases a new album with another label

I don't actually think it is a "greatest hits" album. It's just a companion for the documentary... meaning it covers key moments in her career in chronological order. "What Made You Say That" and "Life's About To Get Good" don't have the numbers to be considered with her greatest hits.
Also the time delay between its digital release and its physical release is interesting... I really think there's more work coming out soon.
What happened to the New album it definitely wasn't scrapped? Any thoughts people. I don't mind the greatest hits album but releasing the Come On Over Diamond edition would of made more sense, I am excited about the Netflix series because she needed a big platform to promote herself and music for years. Finished with the new album in the clip did she mean now for that? It personally depends when the Documentary was made was it just after the now Album? Then let's say if the next project after this is the come on over Diamon Edition could she release a brand New album on the same date and make it a double CD package? Also will she promote the single or are they just using Netflix as a way to promote the single and get her out in the spotlight. I can't see That album being scrapped. It makes no sense. The problem is she needs to do an interview and explain what her plans are, The new album is coming but like Tommy said is it next year or this year? I am excited about the single Not just a girl because life's about to get good wasn't as upbeat, This new one sounds Catchy and to release it the same day as her Documentary is an amazing idea. I just have too agree was this a new song was it recently recorded or was it a song from the album now that didn't make the cut. Her voice won't sound 100% the same anyway even with the best technology. She has a deeper voice but I don't mind that. Her record label dropping her won't happen. She has been with them since 1993 and they still make money off of her. Plus she did release Now and it flopped, However I just don't know what the plans are for the new Album? is it finished perhaps next year with a world tour? She really worked hard on this new album and it will be 100% better than now. I'm just wondering what the plan is. Not just a girl might be on the next new album but it definitely won't be the lead single to promote it. I am thinking Vegas has to end first because she can't really promote it and prepare for it like the Documentary Album, The song will do extremely well in Canada on ITunes because well we love her here. Once again people what do you think her plans are in terms of a new album ? Let's discuss it. Also I agree with Tommy it is hard to tell what the new song will sound like. They keep repeating the same lyrics on the promotion for the series. Still waiting on Tommy's input? So blunt and honest I love that about you Tommy. Just give an opinion you know we love this site. I always Value your feedback because most of the time you are usually correct. Keep up the good work regardless of what people say. I like all opinions on here but I value yours the most. The time and effort and research you do is extremely amazing. Your a very loyal fan and without this page I'd be lost. Now when you get a chance give your opinion and what you think might be happening. Big supporter of this page. Also will the song be send the radio? Will it be on ITunes Tuesday

"Life's About to Get Good" was one of the most upbeat songs on 'Now' so I am unsure why you say it wasn't upbeat lol. Anyway, considering the song will be released on a Tuesday instead of a Friday, it doesn't seem like her team/her aren't aiming for this to be a hit. Which makes me think it's more of a one-off thing for the documentary and that it has nothing to do with the supposed upcoming album. The clips in the trailer talking about finishing the album definitely seem like they are for her next album because I don't believe they started this documentary back when 'Now' was being made.
Side note: does anyone know/remember how far in advance Shania announced 'The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition' before it was released? I wonder if a similar timeline will happen if she releases the 'Come on Over: Diamond Edition' this year.
I'm not sure what the plans are for the new album. I just find it hard to believe Shania will release Not Just A Girl: The Highlights, Come On Over: Diamond Edition, and a new studio album in the last 3-4 months of the year.
The Woman In Me: Diamond Edition was officially announced August 14, 2020 and was released October 2.
As far as "Not Just A Girl", I like what I've heard so far. Although I do hear some NOW album influences in the song. And Shania's voice has that same sound. I highly doubt the song will be sent to radio or be released as an official single. There's been no promotion, etc. I think it's just to promote the documentary.

Not just a girl (NJAG) / the highlights (CD album): September 2.
Come On Over Diamond Edition (CD album): end of October / beginning of November.
New album: early December (before Christmas)
She clearly tweeted "this year" for the new album in January. Will know more about it in the documentary since a part seems largely devoted to it. I think "Not just a girl" will be on the album but not a main single, just promotional like "Poor me" at the time.
In the documentary Shania says "I'm finishing my album... It's a really great feeling. I think the fans will enjoy it." So I don't think she is actually going to talk about the new album much.

It does make me wonder when those clips were filmed though because it's been a few months since she originally put "finished in the studio" on Instagram. It no longer says that but I am sure the documentary has probably been finished for a while.
Here is a review of Shana's new song "Not Just A Girl". At the end it says her new album is set to be released NEXT YEAR. Do they know something we don't?
SINGLE REVIEW: Shania Twain’s ‘Not Just A Girl’
Music and Tour News | July 26, 2002
And the Queen is back!!! Country-pop legend Shania Twain returns today after a 5-year hiatus from releasing recorded music and her anthemic track ‘Not Just A Girl’ is a thumping female empowerment anthem that perfectly captures the essence of Twain both as a woman and as an artist.
Shania has and always will be in a lane of her own, she blazes a trail and blurs the lines of genre definition with every song she ever shares and she has done that again with this standout offering that looks to lift up women and girls around the world and celebrate the power that lies within.
The latest single from the global hitmaker comes as she officially shares the documentary of the same name via Netflix which takes a deeper look at her incredible career and the highs and lows that have come with her being the biggest pop-country superstar ever to grace the music industry.
Twain is an extraordinary artist and ‘Not Just A Girl’ once again gives her the platform to share her magic with the world; her voice is sounding strong, although slightly different to what it was in the 90s and early 2000’s due to scarring on her vocal cords but it’s as beautiful as ever and lyrics are uplifting and powerful with an emphasis on feminism.
The music industry is a better place when Shania Twain is recording and releasing songs and albums and this track offers listeners a little glimpse into what we can expect from her forthcoming studio album which is set to be shared globally next year whilst the new LP ‘Not Just A Girl; The Highlights’ is out now.
I’m a big fan of how her voice has changed and so I wish we could hear it a little more naturally but I guess it’s just her personal preference. I hope she doesn’t think her voice is too “gravelly” because I read that she had some vocal coaches give her hell for it. I love that quality to it and the production kind of removes it.
I see a few fans are still ~adjusting to her new voice… I love her old voice too but I guess I’m not as attached to it since I only started listening to her relatively recently. Both of her voices hit me the same way. Hopefully you guys get to that point too because from my pov it seems like you’re missing out by holding onto the past.
The song’s lyrics are great too. Overall it’s definitely made me even more hyped for the new album, whenever it comes.
Elsewhere I saw a lot of people saying the lyrics were atrocious on "Not Just a Girl" but I don't agree with them. I love the lyrics to this song and it says true to Shania.
The first song is called "Queen of Me", it's already on BMI under this title. I don't know the title of the other song

"Queen of Me" was to be the lead single from the album according to sources, so curious if that will pan out...

We hear well in the doc that "Queen of me" is ready and this song is well put forward. I think she could sing it at Boots&hearts. Or later for the album. "Not Just A Girl" will be a less official single on the album like "Poor me".
The other new song on BMI is "Got It Good". So we have 4 songs from the new album. 5 if "Not Just A Girl" is also on the album.

I'm very interested to see how much of the new album will be electric pop sounding like "Queen of Me". I personally like that Shania continues to explore different genres and continues the exploration that we saw in Up! and NOW. I'm not sure how well it will do commercially as it's very different than her previous songs but I'm here for it.
Tommy, do you think Shania is releasing a new album this year, or next?
I'm almost positive Shania will be releasing COO: Diamond Edition in the Fall. Plus Nov. 4 (its 25th anniversary) is on a Friday this year so that would be a perfect release date.
As far as the new album? I don't know. She'd be cramming a lot into a short period of time. So I'm leaning towards next year. We'll see.

Well, here is our answer. New album not until NEXT YEAR - 2023
"She’s particularly excited to release new music (her sixth studio album will come out next year), and she gushes about her documentary’s newly recorded title track, which sums up the self-declared “rebel’s” mindset 30 years into her unparalleled career."
What excuse? I didn’t hear one but I also don’t think she needs one. She has every right to hold on to her work for as long as she likes. She could still be working on it or maybe she doesn’t think it’s the most opportune time for its release or she’s dealing with something more important. I know she says shes grateful for her fans but we shouldn’t misconstrue that to mean that she owes us something. It’s her art and we’re free to not wait for it and find music elsewhere.
She obviously gets really excited when she’s creating and wants to share it with everyone. I think in the future she’s going to be less inclined to share her excitement with fans so as not to get our expectations up prematurely and that’s unfortunate. It’s been fun getting sneak peeks and dreaming up what she’s been cooking in the studio.
I really think Shania is starting to "wrap things up". This could be her last album. She'll probably continue to do Vegas shows every so often.
Tommy, why do you think this may be her last one? In her 2017 interviews, she mentioned her eagerness of releasing more music. Do you think her voice is deteriorating more than it was from a few years ago? Maybe it’s taking her more and more to be able to sing. I know her voice from Endless Love to Now to Not just a girl, is dramatically Different as time goes on.
I agree with Tommy. I think this upcoming album could very well be her last album and I think she wants it to be perfect. She also probably wants to coordinate a tour with it and she can't go on tour while she is still in Vegas. I just don't see much more music after this album given that it will be 5+ years since the release of NOW before this new album comes out.
I feel pretty confident that this album will come out now that we've heard some of the songs in the documentary.
I think she'll probably retire from recording her own music and touring but I definitely think she'll be back in Vegas and may do some occasional collaborations with other artists. I also think she may get more into acting.
I am very happy with "Not Just a Girl". The song is fabulous. I can't wait to see what else is going to be on her album.
I still remain the same thought, she delays the album due to the possible launch of next tour. She possibly cant launch the tour ticket sales if her residency doesnt end. It may be restrainted by the agreement with the orgraniser. And she needs to release the diamond version of COO within this year. She has to delay the release of the new album.
Of course, she/her label maybe worried about if the album is not country/country-radio friendly. (wonder if she will....)
Shania is literally the queen of country pop so I don't think her label even cares if the album is radio friendly. 'Now' had quite a few very straight up pop songs (like the very first single "Life's About to Get Good" and "Let's Kiss and Make Up"). She's at a point in her career where I am pretty sure her label just lets her do what she wants.
She has so many birthdays to celebrate! The 30 years of "Shania Twain" in April 2023! So maybe the new album (6th) will come in May/June... It's so long! She doesn't talk about it at all but I hope that to make us wait (again), there will be a Christmas album at the end of the year. But I think COO Diamond edition will suffice...
1. Queen of Me (preview we heard in NJAG Documentary)
2. Got it Good (preview we heard too in NJAG Documentary)
3. Best Friend
4. Last Day of Summer
5. You Prick
Where did we hear "Got It Good" in the documentary?
I asked myself the same question. I think it must be when she wears the glasses in the studio with Mark Ralph. When she sings a song I'd rather call "What you gonna do without (love) ?"
Yes correct, the part where Shania is jamming and singing "What Are You Gonna Do" in its lyrics. This is just my take after I saw the song titles in the FB Fan Group. Initially, I posted last time that the title was "What Are You Gonna Do" but maybe it may refer to "Got it Good." Not sure.
"Not just a girl", "I'm a queen", feminism, women's power... I have the impression that these themes around women are very present on the future new album. That's why I think Shania might release a single/the album (?) around International Women's Day in March 2023.
Watching Mirko's livestream in Vegas. A fan onstage just asked Shania when her new album is coming out. She said in the WINTER! So it looks like early next year which would go along with the article above.

So now we have a release season. There are 13 possible dates (Fridays):
December 23, December 30,
January 06, January 13, January 20, January 27,
February 03, February 10, February 17, February 24,
March 03, March 10, March 17.
If the plans do not change, on one of these dates the new album will be released. Since last year she wanted to release the album just before Christmas, it could be December 23, 2022. Otherwise, as I thought, just before International Women's Day in March, so March 03, 2023 is very likely...
