I like the new song. Lots of thought put into the lyrics and she does some cool things with her voice. I've noticed the album track listing is different than the one posted on the Amazon.co.uk website, it has the country versions instead of the International versions and no instrumentals. Do you think it's possible there's two different versions of the album, like a more "pop-friendly version" for the UK like with the Greatest Hits album in 2004?
I listened to the song, and didn’t care for it. Sounds overly produced and very “NOWISH.” I hope her new album is different than this sound. The song was very repetitive and her voice and the way she said her words were hard for me to understand. Just my observation, for those who like it, kudos. ☺️
I know the entire song is floating around out there but I'm holding of posting it until it is officially released in the U.S. tonight at midnight. I'm not taking the risk of copyright infringement.

I cannot decide if I want to listen to the song first tomorrow morning or watch the documentary and listen to the song for the first time that way. Dilemmas lol.

I really like the song. It's her best song since the Up! era. It definitely is way more upbeat and has more a country-pop vibe than anything on NOW but at the same time I hear hints of NOW in it. I also really like the use of guitars in the background. I am very much looking forward to her album. I can listen to it on repeat. I really like the writing and the musical elements in the song but I think it could have been produced better. It's very sad how fast her voice has changed. From 2012-2014, her voice sounded strained but it was definitely recognizable. Today is Your Day, Endless Love and Still the One: Live from Vegas CD sound like her original voice. NOW features her new lower voice. I think her voice now sounds even more raw and damaged than it did during the NOW era. I don't know if it has anything to do with the production of the song. The chorus of this new song sounds like she is really struggling to belt out "I'm not just a girl". I worry that this song (if released as a single) and other songs from her future album won't do well because of this. But I think it's her best song since Party for Two in 2005. I would love to hear a stripped down acoustic version of this song.

Okay so this has been something I have been thinking about as well. We all knew of her vocal problems from the Lyme's Disease and dysphonia however I don't understand the vocal difference after her first Vegas residency. She sounded enough like her former self then and then suddenly it changed into the 'Now' voice which remains the same today. Why did her voice change so much after the first residency? Regardless, I hope her voice doesn't continue to decline like it seems to be doing.

I think her voice started to give out towards the end of her 1st Vegas residency. I think that's why the Rock this Country tour was billed as a "farewell tour". Her voice sounds pretty bad during the Rock this Country tour but it didn't have the deep raw sound that NOW has. She sang most of the songs in Rock this Country tour without playback. You can see this on YouTube when she is singing I'm Gonna Getcha Good and Up! before it was switched to playback. There's also a performance of You're Still the One she did with Corey Hart where she is actually singing live and not using the backing track she used from 2012-through the NOW tour and she is really struggling.
I suspect she had vocal chord surgery in 2016 and I think she may have had additional surgeries since then. I think this is why she has used playback on 95% of songs in the NOW Tour and Let's Go residency because her voice is deep and if she tries to sing her old hits it just won't sound the same and it require extensive key changes.
Regarding the conversation above, she's mentioned a few times that her condition is degenerative. That means that her voice will be harder to control as time goes on and she can't keep getting surgeries to delay it. I honestly think it's brave of her to sing live at all, considering that she needs to take considerable care of her voice if she wants to keep making music for herself or for the public for much longer. And I saw that Cory Hart video, Shania wasn't struggling. She just had a horrible duet partner who doesn't know how to harmonize or adapt.
Tommy, do you think this song, “Not Just A Girl” is going to be released as an official single, or do you think it’s just a promo song? I don’t know where the radio market is for the song, but curious what your thoughts are.

I doubt it will be sent to radio. I don't even think Country radio will play it. Just like the songs from NOW. I like the song. But the more I listen to it, I don't LOVE it. It's not a song I can play over and over again. However, I think it is very well written.

So I just listened to the song for the first time in full and I absolutely love it. She does so many things with her voice on the song that she didn't do on 'Now' and it just makes me so happy.
And the Queen is back!!! Country-pop legend Shania Twain returns today after a 5-year hiatus from releasing recorded music and her anthemic track ‘Not Just A Girl’ is a thumping female empowerment anthem that perfectly captures the essence of Twain both as a woman and as an artist.
Shania has and always will be in a lane of her own, she blazes a trail and blurs the lines of genre definition with every song she ever shares and she has done that again with this standout offering that looks to lift up women and girls around the world and celebrate the power that lies within.
The latest single from the global hitmaker comes as she officially shares the documentary of the same name via Netflix which takes a deeper look at her incredible career and the highs and lows that have come with her being the biggest pop-country superstar ever to grace the music industry.
Twain is an extraordinary artist and ‘Not Just A Girl’ once again gives her the platform to share her magic with the world; her voice is sounding strong, although slightly different to what it was in the 90s and early 2000’s due to scarring on her vocal cords but it’s as beautiful as ever and lyrics are uplifting and powerful with an emphasis on feminism.
The music industry is a better place when Shania Twain is recording and releasing songs and albums and this track offers listeners a little glimpse into what we can expect from her forthcoming studio album which is set to be shared globally next year whilst the new LP ‘Not Just A Girl; The Highlights’ is out now.
I just finished watching the Netflix documentary and there were also preview of other two new songs "I am a Queen" and "What Are You Gonna Do" - this is just my assumption of the titles. =) I am also happy to see the part where they flash the message that "Shania continues to create new music bringing her unique voice to a loyal global fanbase." So exciting and looking forward on her next album! Regardless on how her voice now, which I already accepted it, as long as there is a new music from her being loyal fan, this makes me happy and inspires me.
The song Not Just A Girl is on repeat - love the lyrics on chorus - I pack my suitcases / I'm going places / I'm gonna rule the world - This is very true to life indeed.
Does anyone have the snippets of the two unreleased songs in the documentary? Because I don't want to have to re-scroll through it every time I want to listen to those clips again lol.
So what are these rumors of her scrapping the album(s)? She included some of those songs in the documentary which would be odd to include if they were scrapped.
We hear well in the doc that "Queen of me" is ready and this song is well put forward. I think she could sing it at Boots&hearts. Or later for the album. "Not Just A Girl" will be a less official single on the album like "Poor me".

Thank you so much! I absolutely love the sound of it and is probably my favorite thing she's done in years.
You're welcome, we must thank the gentleman I asked to post on Youtube. I like it a lot as well. At first when she sang a capella on the lake I thought it sucked but after going to the studio it's cool.
It felt weird to me to release a documentary about my career without some kind of musical companion, so we had this idea to release a collection of all the songs in the documentary and give you something new as well... 😘 Not Just A Girl - The Highlights album is out digitally now. Let me know what you think!! ❤️
Shania currently has three albums in the top 10 On the iTunes Country charts. And Come On Over is #12 on the all genre chart! # 5 - COO # 6 - NJAG #7 - GH So exciting! The documentary was incredible ❤️

“Not Just A Girl” song is at number 50 on country singles charts on iTunes. “MIFLAW” is at 51 on singles country. If she would put a little more promotion behind the the “Not Just A Girl” song, it may do better, but not sure if it will break top 100 on all genre singles or not.
Greatest hits albums always sell good year by year , anyway , all Shania albums are full of “greatest hits” , quite interesting that people prefers the official hits album over the Netflix soundtrack. With does numbers still thinking about what could have happened with that promised Xmas album , sure a world breaking chart topper , and Xmas albums sell always every year.
After the release of Shania's "Not Just A Girl" documentary and the success of her albums on the iTunes and streaming charts, I'm shocked that not any re-entered this week's Billboard 200 chart (August 6).

Alexander Harbaugh, who has shot many of Shania's photoshoots over the years including her "Let's Go!" promo shoot, photographed Shania for her Not Just A Girl CD and documentary.
I'm sure Greatest Hits and maybe Come On Over also re-entered Billboard's Top Country Albums chart but as I mentioned last week, you need a subscription to access the chart.
