Review: Shania Twain Ends QUEEN OF ME Tour in Vancouver!
After many tour stops in both North America and Europe, Shaniaâs latest concert tour concluded at Rogers Arena last week.
By Alyson Eng | Broadway World | November 24, 2023Â
From âThat Donât Impress Me Muchâ to âAny Man of Mineâ and âMan, I Feel Like a Woman,â country music fan or not, itâs nearly impossible to not know at least one song in Shania Twainâs discography. Ever since her debut studio album released in 1993 entitled, âShania Twain,â she has dominated the country music scene hit after hit. Eventually releasing 6 successful studio albums to date with over 100 million records sold worldwide and 5 Grammy Awards under her belt, Shania has had an incredible career so far. As a Canadian cultural icon with immense music chart-topping success, Shania continues to attract audiences wherever she goes with both her greatest hits and new music.Â
Beginning in April of this year, Shania Twain began her 5th headlining concert tour. Named the âQueen of Meâ tour after her most recent 6th studio album of the same name, this was Shaniaâs return to the stage after nearly five years. The tour began in Spokane on April 28th with shows in both North America and Europe including 2 stops in Vancouver back in May. After adding more dates due to high demand, Shania ultimately decided to add a 2nd leg to the tour which started in October and ended last week at Rogers Arena.Â
Canadian country music singer Tenille Townes opened for Shania during this leg of the tour. Hailing from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Townes attended Shaniaâs Up! Tour when she was 9 years old and was given an opportunity to sing with her on stage. Several years later, now as a rising country music star, Townes and Twain united again, proving that dreams really do come true. To open the show, Townes performed several of her hit songs such as âSomebodyâs Daughterâ and included a cover of âCome Togetherâ by The Beatles. Later on, after Shania hit the stage, Townes returned to sing the hit duet, âParty For Twoâ with her.
While the tour was intended to support her latest âQueen of Meâ studio album, the concerts were also an overall celebration of the music, artistry, stories, and talent of Shaniaâs entire career. Playing only 3 songs from her new album including, âWaking Up Dreaming,â âGiddy Up!â and âPretty Liar,â the show had a heavy emphasis on her greatest hits. With songs such as âUp!â âDonât Be Stupid (You Know I Love You),â âWhose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?â and âHoney, Iâm Home,â pumping up the crowd, no one seemed too disappointed that a verse from the song behind the tour name, âQueen of Me,â was only sung briefly (and acoustically) by Shania for a short moment.
The show began with a performance of, âWaking Up Dreaming,â from her newest album. Despite starting the show a little later than usual, the excitement level was still high amongst the audience and escalated even more when Shania appeared within the audience on the floor level to start the show. Giving attendees an up close and personal performance was an experience of a lifetime for fans that were lucky enough to be within a few feet of her. Â
The staging of the show was simple. There were no pull out walkways or secondary stages, just one stage with two levels accompanied by large screens for added projection and effects. This was definitely simpler than previous tours; however, it emphasized Shaniaâs ability to put on a good show without all the flashy gimmicks and excessive special effects. Her live band and two male back-up dancers were the perfect touch, giving her the right amount of support to let her shine. Although Shania did not change outfits during the show, fans didnât seem to mind. She spent most of her time focusing on the music and fan experience.Â
For her last show, Shania gave an overall solid vocal performance. Having been through a lot with her voice in the past, it was understandable that it has changed over the years. Some songs such as âAny Man of Mineâ were taken down an octave to allow Shania to comfortably hit the required notes, which was fine and still got the crowd singing and dancing along. Perhaps one of my favorite moments of the show was when she sang, âStill The One.â Both acoustically and with musical accompaniment, Shania proved that she still had that spark and distinctive voice that people fell in love with many years ago when she sang this song for the first time.Â
Throughout the show, Shania brought a few lucky fans onto the stage for a few surprises. The first being a mother and daughter hailing from White Rock, BC. Shania brought out the original iconic leopard outfit from her âThat Donât Impress Me Muchâ music video and let both of them try it on. Later in the show, a fan that had seen Shania 13 times (and counting) was given the opportunity to sing with her on stage. No matter what, it was evident that Shania genuinely cared about her fans and wanted to give back to them for supporting her and her career after all the years of being in the spotlight.Â
Shania Twainâs Queen of Me tour was an unforgettable experience. Her infectious energy, electrifying stage presence, and love for her fans has not faded, but grown with time. Traveling through the journey of her career, hit after hit, was a musical celebration that hit home for both longtime and newcomer fans. Canada will always love Shania Twain ⊠forever and for always.Â
Shania Twain concluded her Queen of Me Tour in Vancouver, BC on November 14th, 2023 at Rogers Arena. Her Las Vegas Residency at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood entitled âCome on Over: The Las Vegas Residency - All The Hits!â will commence in May of 2024. It's no big surprise which artists were country music's top five touring acts in 2023, but what might be surprising is just how big of a margin fell between No. 1 and No. 2.
When it comes to country music's mainstream touring prevalence, it's often a toss-up between Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs. But according to year-end data from Billboard Boxscore, the final numbers weren't even all that close.
Wallen comes out on top as the No. 1 touring artist from the country genre, grossing almost twice as much revenue from tour as Combs did as the No. 2 act!
Wallen closes out the year with a whopping $260,355,870 in touring revenue, the bulk of which comes from his massive 2023 One Night at a Time Tour. Meanwhile, Combs comes in second with $133,512,495, following his highly-coveted 2023 World Tour. That means that Wallen earned just over twice as much as Combs did on the road this year, despite the fact that he only played two more dates in total (44 to Combs' 42).
Elsewhere in the list, George Strait comes in at No. 3, but he's undeniably the king when it comes to revenue per show: He only played 11 dates in 2023, but raked in $107,521,44 in gross earnings. That's nearly $10 million per show!
Shania Twain is the only woman on the list of 2023's top country tours, making a major impression with her fan-favorite Queen of Me Tour, Eric Church closes out the top five.

No. 4: Shania Twain.
Total Gross Earnings: $84,988,073
Shania Twain made major waves in 2023 with her Queen of Me Tour, a trek that served just as much as a celebration of her older material as it did a promotional tour of her latest album. Night after night, she proved she's "Still the One." Not only is Twain the only woman in country's top five touring acts, but she was also the busiest performer: She played 52 dates in 2023, besting the next-most-prolific performer by 10 shows.
It's a lie!!! She played more than 76 shows! So the gross Is higher
They (Billboard) might be counting only U.S. and Canada dates. Although according to my tour schedule there were 67 U.S./Canada concerts. 66 if you don't count the Faster Horses festival.

Shania Twain Gets Royal Treatment from Eighth Day Sound
ETnow | January 23, 2024
'Queen of Meâ played 78 shows across North America and Europe, showing live audiences (for the first time in five years) that Shaniaâs beautiful blend of sassy and heartfelt song writing is still in full reign.
FOH engineer Rob âCubbyâ Colby says his great experience mixing this tour has been down to the hard-working production crew: âProduction manager Denny Rich, production assistant Libby Dostart, tour co-ordinator and tour manager Joel Eriksson, stage manager Brandon Bogaert and music conductor Marco Gamboa helped to make it a joy to be a part of.â
His time with Eighth Day Sound has also been smooth sailing: âIt has been an absolute pleasure to work with Tom Arko and his team at Eighth Day Sound. Iâve enjoyed getting to know their different crews, project managers and office staff. Most recently on Shaniaâs tour, I requested a small footprint at FOH, and everything was addressed perfectly both at their US and UK shops,â he adds.
âTo be trusted is always an opportunity to focus on why I've been chosen to mix FOH on tour, and I'll do my very best to mix the music as the artist intended it to be heard,â he states.
âThe reactions from the audience, the artist, management and promoter feedback are important; I want to know Iâve delivered a great experience.â
He continues: âI familiarise myself with recorded versions of the songs, not just the biggest hits, and concerning Shaniaâs huge catalogue, there are many stories from her extensive career that offer a better perspective on what the song might be about. I take what I learn into her live production and create a sensitivity to the music mix.â
Cubbyâs console of choice has been DiGiCo since the deskâs inception. âCurrently, Iâm on an SD7 Quantum with two 32-Bit SD Racks. I use pretty much everything on the desk itself as my approach has always been of pure path, and this console offers everything I need. The only plug-ins I use are the Waves PSE and F6.
âI multi-track via two MGB to BlackMagic drives and use Logic Pro as the DAW.
I have a Tascam SS-CDR200 for quick reference mixes and there are also two Smart C2s in my rack, just in case,â he adds.
With his equipment as requested, Cubby comments that the âFeel Like a Womanâ hitmaker wanted a pop/rock approach: âHer voice is so strong and her band are great musicians, I enjoy the emphasis on the segue into different parts of the show. Shania has a very good knowledge of audio and musical sounds in general, and her vocal ability to harmonise and select the parts best suited for each singer in her band is interesting. She explains her vision for the live shows and I translate that; sheâs always the producer.â
Each tour date unveils a leopard print stage, a glimmering motorcycle and crystal-clear audio. In the UK, the latter is courtesy of 148 cabinets powered by over 70 D80 amplifiers. The team opted for a d&b audiotechnik rig comprising main and side hangs of KSL (8s and 12s) and flown and ground stacked SL Subs with Y10s on the inner placements and AL60s on the outer.
Cubby says of the PA set-up: âIn today's world of system choices, I couldnât do a show without a good systems engineer. Nils Knecht has been such a pleasure to work with, he truly knows his stuff and is a positive force to have around.
âHe gives me the same system every day despite being in such different venues, which creates the consistency Iâm looking for and he therefore provides the best results for the whole production.â
Knecht furthers: âCubby is a great engineer, and his mix translates Shaniaâs music perfectly. He likes a round system with some low end and doesn't want to overachieve with the d&b ArrayProcessing on a long throw; he wants to make sure thereâs a natural touch.
âIn the larger arenas where seats are sold all the way around, we have a 270-degree hang made up of V12s and V8s. We use ArrayProcessing on all the hangs, which helps to make everything sound even throughout the venues, and the Y10s and AL60s make a little curved cluster to get the near fill we require.
âFrom Cubbyâs SD7Q, he drops me a couple of AES lines which I take into the Lakes at FOH to distribute the signal. All my processing happens in the amps, so my Lakes are a big matrix used to route the signal wherever I need it to go.â
Fellow expert engineer Connie Fernstrom has been mixing Shaniaâs monitors for around 11 years and echoes the desire for consistency. âShania wants things to be consistent, night after night, venue to venue. That's what we strive to deliver,â he notes.Â
Engineering on a DiGiCo SD5, he describes each song as unique: âEvery song is unique in terms of how she likes to hear it live, but once we get that locked in, we do our best to deliver that same sound each night. For any monitor or FOH mixer, backline tech, etc, you must earn the artistâs trust and then deliver on it repeatedly.â
Fernstrom is generating eight mixes plus the crew shout-out lines. Very happy with his Shure rider, he adds: âEveryone uses Shure PSM1000âs with Shure Axient and ULXD for RF, itâs a wonderful sounding system.âÂ
He continues: âOur DiGiCo drive racks and all my RF inputs/outputs are in one big rack, which is very convenient. Eighth Day has been great with my packaging. Like Cubby, I asked them for a small footprint, which is why the SD5 is perfect, and itâs working great.â
Fernstrom works closely with right-hand man and monitor technician Nathan Fenchak, who adds: âThe goal we have is to achieve the right mix without adding complexity to the monitor system. We have a couple of analogue splitters because Cubby and Connie don't share a cage but the whole show pretty much fits in one rack.
âThe only unusual thing we're doing is that all of the backline RF is in our monitor rack, so the signal comes into our rack and we then return the guitars out to the musicians, which runs through their Kempers and Helixes and back to us.â
Fenchakâs RF file is built into a Shure Wireless Workbench, which he says gives peace of mind: âI love the way Shure integrates into Workbench, I can monitor and manage the whole system so easily.â
Additional peace of mind comes thanks to Eighth Dayâs people-first touring mentality. âThey take care of us,â Fenchak comments. âThey have a good company culture, and we always feel like they have our backs out here.â
Nick âNikoâ Labas handles comms using Riedelâs Bolero wireless intercom system, chosen for its robust nature and ability to handle up to 100 antennas at a time. Labas says it has made his role on tour second nature. He praises: âUsing the Bolero system has been great, theyâve made a very easy-to-use comms programme, which is intuitive even if youâve never done comms before. Itâs a powerful intercom that I think anyone can get comfortable using. Iâve had some nice feedback on my work on this tour, and Iâve loved working on it.â
Eighth Day Soundâs touring crew is completed by PA technicians Sam Hydorn and Jamie Tremelin.  Â
The crowd still goes wild for Honey, Iâm Home all these years later!! đ„ So much of the 90s was about pleasing everyone else but here was my own personal call to action for my honey to please ME! Mickey Guyton Learned a Valuable Lesson From Shania Twain | WWHL
Grammy nominated singer Mickey Guyton says she strongly disagreed with radio personality Bobby Bones winning the 27th season of Dancing with the Stars with his partner Sharna Burgess. Julianne Hough canât help but agree with Mickey and says his fan base pulled him through to victory. Plus, Mickey Guyton says Shania Twain taught her to be a badass performer while being unapologetically sexy when she opened for her on tour.
I was digging through the folders on my laptop and found this from the Queen Of Me tour. When I was growing up I used to play this song as part of my repertoire - A classic!
