Shania Twain Records Her Favorite Songs for Spotify Singles Release

Shania Twain has recorded some of her favorite songs for the latest installment of Spotify Singles.

The three new tracks feature a cover of “Spoonful” made famous by blues legend Howlin’ Wolf, a take on Harry Styles’ “Falling,” as well as an all-new re-imagining of “Queen of Me” from her new album of the same name.

Her reworking of “Queen of Me” sees a stripped-back rendition, a far cry from the beat-heavy original. Giving it an acoustic flair, the subdued “Queen of Me” still makes for a fun and dance-able banger. Her take on the standard “Spoonful” is the perfect vehicle for the raspier side of her range. The result is a rich and sensual blues-tinged success. A known admirer of today’s pop sensation Styles, Twain’s cover of his fan-favorite ballad “Falling” is pure power. Taking the already emotional tune up a notch, she delivers a soul-stirring, piano-driven heartbreaker.

“I just fell in love with ‘Falling,'” she explained of her song choice in a statement. “I love Harry Styles anyway and his version of the song really moved me and I wanted to try it on. It came out more emotional than I thought it would and I was very pleased – I can kind of hear my pain in it. It was also a tip to Harry Styles as well because he has often done my songs in his shows.”

Twain says she felt right at home while recording in Los Angeles’ Spotify Studios. “The Spotify studio is crazy, like I just want to move in there,” she said of the space that gave life to the below renditions of her personal favorites. “It’s state of the art, but it’s so friendly! It’s a very soothing place. So I’ll just be going back there to goof around and record more stuff. I told them I need a locker here, I’m moving in!”

Shania Twain is the latest artist — one of over 300 to date — to partake in the Spotify Singles program, which allows musicians to reimagine their own songs and others they love.

Recorded in Los Angeles back in January, the national treasure and occasional liar has released a three-track collection: covers of Harry Styles's 2017 ballad "Falling" and Howlin' Wolf's '60s blues tune "Spoonful," as well as a brand new version of the title track from her new album Queen of Me.

"The ideal environment for listening to my Spotify Singles, I have to listen to them with headphones because it's kind of intimate and I'm alone with it and I can hear all the intricacies in everything," Twain said of the project.

Of the "Queen of Me" rework, she added, "The Spotify Singles version of 'Queen of Me' is more of a jam, it's a small group of musicians, a very intimate version without all the big production which is kind of fun."

I am absolutely blown away by all 3 of these tracks!! What a gift! In all 3, she uses her voice so effectively-- these stripped back productions help her showcase the emotion that her newfound grit conveys. In this version of "Queen of Me", her message of resilience comes through more clearly. In "Spoonful", it's next level soulfulness that I don't think we've ever heard from Shania before. Her voice is so perfect for blues-- this is a great example of how her new voice has opened up doors for her to perform different types of music to powerful results. And "Falling" is just gut wrenching. When you hear the lyrics and think about what she's bene through and you feel the pain in her voice? Such a nuanced and moving performance.

I am almost as giddy listening to these tracks as I was listening to the album for the first time. She really did us fans proud with these and I hope someone from her team reads this board so they can share that with her!

It was really special getting to re record 'Queen Of Me' with a live band setup for my @spotify Singles release. I would LOVE for her on the tour to start "Queen of Me" acoustically like this with just her guitar and then after the first verse/chorus go into the album version.

I love when uses her pure raw vocals,  When she recorded now I believe she didn't have the open throat surgery. She sounds better now then a few years ago. I expect her to sing more live at her concerts. She will use a backing track for some but I believe this tour will be a good one. I'm just wondering what the setlist of songs will be. She might sing life's about to get good from now but I expect more from the new album and her older songs. When might be sang from come on over because that was one of the fan favorites years ago. She's not just a pretty face should also be sang and honestly Ka Ching might be added in Europe. Giddy up is definitely one she will be adding, Waking up dreaming also and also Queen of me. The other two or three I'll leave it up for you all to guess. Maybe half of this should be posted on the concert part. I just hate posting so much at once. I don't want to annoy anyone
