Grammy award-winning country-pop star Shania Twain will headline this summer's Churchill Park Music Festival in St. John's, according to a news release from the festival early Wednesday afternoon.

St. John's will be Twain's only Canadian stop this summer, according to the news release.

She'll be performing over two nights on Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday, Aug. 17 at Churchill Park.

Other artists performing at this year's festival include Alan Doyle, Lindsay Ell and Talk.

In 2023, Canadian music icon Alanis Morissette took to the stage at the festival at the park in the centre of St. John's.

Pre-sale tickets to see Twain begin April 2 and noon, and general admission tickets for the festival begin April 4 at noon NT.

I live up the street from where this event will be. It's taken so long to get Shania Twain here that you wouldn't believe the excitement for the people of St. John's, Newfoundland. Being on an Island in the North Atlantic, I'm glad we have finally got her to headline here. I can't wait to get tickets.

Brother of Harry Hibbs Reflects on Shania Twain’s NL Connection

Country megastar Shania Twain is coming to the Churchill Park Music festival this August, but her connection to this province dates back to the late 70s and Newfoundland musical icon Harry Hibbs.

Marty Hibbs, the brother of the late musician, remembers hiring Twain, who he refers to by her birthname Eilleen, at the Conception Bay Club in Toronto.

He explains that Harry Hibbs would travel back and forth between Ontario and Newfoundland, and would perform at the club once every two weeks.

In the interim, he needed someone to perform with their house band, and hired a 15 or 16 year old Twain to do so. He also hired the singer’s mother to work in the kitchen.

Hibbs says Twain performed every weekend at the club and would have been there when Harry was around.

He says Twain talks about her time at “the Irish club” in her book, and mentions “his nibbs” Harry Hibbs by name.

Hibbs describes knowing Twain and her mom “quite intimately,” and was very proud to see her success.

He says he ran into her after she become well known and they had a chance to talk for a bit. He says Twain “earned her stripes” by performing in clubs at such a young age.

Shania Twain Tickets Sell Out in Record Time

Shania Twain mania has hit the province. Tickets for the country pop superstar’s shows at the Churchill Park Music Festival have sold out.

Thousands swarmed to the festival website to get in the queue before sales opened at noon, with all tickets sold out within an hour.

Those who were unable to purchase tickets have been placed on a waitlist, should more tickets become available.

I'm from Newfoundland and live in St. John's, Newfoundland. I've never ever seen an artist Headline three shows in Newfoundland before. I've seen multiple arena shows but this goes above and beyond anything I've ever seen. I managed to get tickets for Saturday's show but it was a struggle. Alot of people got upset that they couldn't get tickets. So they had to add a third show. Each show will hold 12,000 plus fans a night. Newfoundland only has a population of over 500,000 people and the city of St. John's and surrounding areas only has over 200,000 people. It's unlike anything I've ever seen for any artist. She will be treated like a queen here when she arrives. Happy 😊

Dream Come True: Mallory Johnson Thrilled to Open for Shania Twain

A local singer-songwriter says getting the opportunity to open for country megastar Shania Twain this weekend is a dream come true.

Country artist Mallory Johnson is one of the opening acts on Friday night, kicking off a set of three shows at the Churchill Park Music Festival.

Johnson says she has looked up to Twain ever since she was a little girl.

She recalls singing along to Twain’s music in the car as a child.

“I grew up singing Shania Twain along with Dolly Parton so it’s definitely a pinch me moment.”

She sounded amazing tonight, I always watch videos online and have judged her sometimes based on that but the in person experience was amazing. She sounded great, looked amazing, Great production. She pulled some people up on stage as well. She also sang if your not in it for love I'm outta here and a little acoustic of the song the woman in me for a fan. Her voice is amazing. I think her time in Newfoundland gave her much more time to rehearse than most headlining shows. Honestly this might be her best performance I have seen since up. Word up no one complaint and nothing but love and support. VIP tomorrow night. I'll try and get some photos tomorrow night.

I came to Newfoundland & Labrador with my band Flirt some 40 years ago - it was my first ever tour of the East Coast and my first ever time away from home. During that tour I met Gloria, a local girl who took care of me and showed me around and last night, all these years later, we were reunited ❤️ The hospitality and sentiment of Newfies is unmatched - thank you for, once again, showing me such a warm welcome!

Shania Twain Superfan Shares Heartfelt Moment Backstage With Country Star

One of Shania Twain’s biggest fans not only sang his heart out this weekend—he also got the chance to meet her backstage.

Luke Whelan was over the moon when he found out Twain would be headlining the Churchill Park Music Festival.

His mom Lynn Palfrey was quick to buy tickets for her and her son, but things only went “up” from there.

Prior to the concert, an anonymous donation was made to the Shania Twain Foundation and arrangements were made for Luke to meet his favourite musician.

Luke came prepared with a gift of flowers and a bracelet for Twain, with the two sharing a special moment backstage.

He told the country star that he didn’t have down syndrome; he had Up! syndrome, to which Twain replied “that’s brilliant, Lukey!”

Twain later dedicated her song Up! to Luke who was dancing the night away in the audience.

When Shania sang on stage for the fan on Sunday night she said the one singing with her had a better voice. Then Shania said she sings over her record. Pretty much stated she used a recorded track. The crowd did go silent for a second but she did say she was joking. One think I'll point out yes it was an amazing concert but she does sometimes talk way too much. Other than that an amazing show.
