The biggest talent competition in the country gets EVEN BIGGER! The legendary, highest selling female country star of all time – @shaniatwain joins the judges panel for the all-new season of Canada’s Got Talent, coming spring 2025.
Canadian music icon Shania Twain and comedian Katherine Ryan will be joining the judges’ panel for Season 4 of Canada’s Got Talent, Rogers Sports & Media announced Monday.
“Canada! I’m really excited to discover the amazing talent you have to share,” Twain said in a release. “Canada is well known for having high calibre creative people and it’s my honour to sit back and see you at your best. Let’s go my fellow Canadians!”
Production for the new season will begin this fall and will premiere in spring of 2025. Auditions are now open on Citytv.com.
The latest addition to Canada’s Got Talent was part of a slew of programming announcements that will bring more original content to the network.
“We just wrapped our best season yet for original programming on Citytv, and are excited to build on this success by delivering more compelling stories and familiar homegrown stars to Canadians,” said Hayden Mindell, senior vice president of television at Rogers Sports & Media.
Country Queen Shania Twain is joining Canada's Got Talent as a Judge and Tracey Moore and Cheryl Hickey will host a new program for Canadians. Lindsay Dunn has the story.
I am happy for her but also worried about what this will mean for potential new music. Considering she doesn't seem to make much music during tours or residencies, I find it hard to believe she would make music while busy with the talent show as well.

I think they tape most of the shows in the Fall and begin airing in the Spring. Then they have some live shows in May to wrap up the season.

Canada’s Got Talent returns to Niagara Falls with Shania Twain
Filming for the show’s fourth season starts Oct. 22 at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino.

“Canada’s Got Talent” is returning to Niagara Falls and Canadian icon Shania Twain will be among the judges.
Filming for the show’s fourth season starts Oct. 22 at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino and continues to Oct. 27.
Twain, one of the most successful country artists in music history, will join comedian Katherine Ryan as newcomers to the judges’ table, replacing WWE star Trish Stratus and YouTube star Lilly Singh after three seasons.
Judges Howie Mandel and rapper Kardinal Offishall will be returning, along with host Lindsay Ell.
After two rounds of filming at Fallsview — auditions and semifinals — the show will premiere in the spring of 2025 on Citytv. The two-hour season finale will air live from Fallsview Casino, likely in May.
“We can’t wait to see the latest crop of remarkable Canadian talent grace our stage in Niagara,” said executive producer Scott McGillivray. “We hope to see people from the region come out and join us in the audience for auditions.”
“Canada’s Got Talent” initially aired on Citytv in 2012, with Martin Short and Niagara Falls composer Stephan Moccio among the judges. It didn’t get picked up for a second season.
A revamped version of the show started filming at Fallsview Casino’s Avalon Theatre in the fall of 2021. When it aired the following spring, it was an instant success, becoming Citytv’s most-watched original program in a decade.
Filming shifted to the casino’s OLG Stage the next year, making “Canada’s Got Talent” the first production at the new 5,000-seat, $130 million venue.
The first two seasons of the show’s new era had a top prize of $150,000 for the winner. Last season that took a dramatic leap, with Rogers putting up $1 million for the winner. Prince Albert, Saskatchewan singer Rebecca Strong ended up on top during the finale in May.
When reached Friday, a spokesperson for the show could not confirm whether Season 4 will also come with a $1-million prize.
Fred and Shania are currently in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. She will tape the 4th season of "Canada's Got Talent" at OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls this week (October 22-27). Shania will be one of the judges. Lindsay Ell is the host. The show will air in Spring 2025.

Filming for “Canada’s Got Talent” season 4 starts this week in Niagara Falls.

New “Canada’s Got Talent” judge Shania Twain chats with returning judge Howie Mandel at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino Monday. The show has returned this week to start filming its fourth season.
The Shania Twain train has rolled into Niagara Falls for the return of “Canada’s Got Talent.”
Twain, one of the most successful country artists of all time, is among the new judges for the show’s fourth season, which starts filming episodes at OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino Tuesday and continues to Oct. 27.
Twain and Sarnia-born comedian Katherine Ryan are the show’s new faces, replacing Trish Stratus and Lilly Singh. They join returning favourites Howie Mandel and Kardinal Offishall, who have been with the show since it re-emerged from a decade-long hiatus in 2021.
All four judges plus returning host Lindsay Ell did the rounds with the media Monday inside the 5,000-seat theatre, which is hosting the show for the third straight year (it was filmed at the smaller Avalon Theatre in 2021).
Ryan has appeared on several British shows since moving to the U.K. 17 years ago. She was “very familiar” with “Canada’s Got Talent,” but said she isn’t here to play nice.
“My persona in the U.K. is that I’m a little bit Simon Cowell, a little bit naughty,” she said. “I’m very truthful, ruthless some might say.
“I feel like I might have been brought in as a mercenary.”
After a round of tapings this week, the show returns to film the semifinals in either December or January. Episodes start airing in the spring on Citytv with a live two-hour finale in late May.
Last year, the show’s top prize went to $1 million from $150,000. That seven-figure sum is returning for season 4, which rapper/producer Offishall said puts extra pressure on the judges.
“It made it more difficult behind the scenes in terms of how we judged,” he said. “This is literally the biggest bank out of any of the ‘Got Talent’ formats across the world.
“For me and Howie, we kind of now know what that fine line, what that balance is.”
For Offishall, changing half of the judges’ table is bringing him back to season 1, “in the way that I have no idea what to expect. We still don’t even know what the chemistry is like. That’s what makes it exciting.”
Mandel, who has also been a judge on “America’s Got Talent” since 2010, said while he’s “excited” about the new faces, the show’s focus remains on the performers.
“What I’ve learned to realize in 16 years being a judge on a talent show … that desk does not matter as much as that star on the stage. You can have incredible chemistry and everything, (but) if they don’t bring it there, then you have a lousy season, you don’t get the ratings, and nobody cares.”
Mandel has worked with Ryan before on the Netflix show “The Fix,” but he along with the other judges are meeting Twain for the first time. The four of them realize they’re about to change some lives.
“Shania Twain is an international superstar, Kardinal is making superstars. If you had the opportunity to have somebody like that stand in front of you … I was standing on stage at Yuk Yuk’s (in the beginning) getting input from people in Markham.
“It’s a vast difference from what you’ll get here.”
Auditions are officially wrapped - and we can hardly wait for you to see all of the incredible acts that are in store this season 💫 #CGT is coming your way in 2025!
Katherine Ryan vows to 'embrace her inner Simon Cowell' and be the 'villain' on big talent show
EXCLUSIVE The comedian also reveals what happened when she tried to ‘slide into DMs’ of fellow judge Shania Twain
By Tina Campbell | The Standard - UK | October 29, 2024
Katherine Ryan says she’s ready to be the “villain” as she joins the judging panel for Canada’s Got Talent.
The 41-year-old Canadian-born comedian, who now lives in the UK, will join Howie Mandel, Kardinal Offishall and Shania Twain on the panel and can’t wait to get started.
Speaking to The Standard, she said: “I love being in this position as a judge on a big shiny Saturday night show like this and I think I’ve been brought in as a mercenary to be honest.
“I think what they are looking for is my inner Simon Cowell. Canadians are really kind and very polite, but I think that we are returning to a time in comedy where people are looking to get the edge back. I think that you can be honest and I think that you can say no in a way that’s funny and cutting but is also kind. I like playing with those boundaries.”
She added: “I embrace the role of villain and I know that I have a very kind and open heart and that’s why I’m able to be a bit provocative in my stand up and I think there is a fun way to be mean and be on the right side of mean so I’m hoping to bring that to the show.”
Asked what type of acts she particularly feels strongly about, she said: “I’m not looking forward to children. Talented children really make me cry, I have an Achilles heal and it’s children performing. My hope is not to fly all the way over there just to cry.”
Ryan - who has recently kicked off her Battleaxe stand-up tour, which is set to include three nights at the London Palladium in March - is particularly excited about meeting country icon Shania Twain, proclaiming herself “obsessed”.
Things didn’t go too well however when she tried to slide into the That Don’t Impress Me Much hit-maker’s DMs on Instagram.
She explained: “I will sit next to Shania Twain for every episode and I am obsessed! I absolutely feel spoiled to have so many female icons. As a Canadian we’ve got Celine Dion, Pamela Anderson, Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, the list goes on.
“I just really hope she [Shania] likes me. I’ve not met her yet. it’s like the first day of school. She’s like the popular girl at school. I messaged her Instagram which maybe I always forget that some people don’t monitor their own social media and she didn’t write me back so I have to hope that it was a lowly assistant who didn’t want to message me back. I’m sure we’ll get along just great. And Canada has so much talent to offer.”
Ryan is an ambassador for Gousto and has teamed up with the recipe box company for their new Off My Plate campaign which encourages the nation to share their mealtime mental load.
The brand have partnered up with ceramic artist Margo in Margate with customers in with a chance to win a limited edition plate from her range if they share their mealtime mental load.
Hailing the plates as “gorgeous”, she said of Gousto’s latest initiative: “It's really about the mental load of having to prepare for meal times and think about the week ahead when life is so overwhelming.”
Ryan is a proud mum-of-three to Fenna, two, and Fred, three, whom she shares with husband Bobby Kootstra, and 15-year-old daughter Violet from a previous relationship.
The Duchess star admits that while her other half does the majority of the cooking in their household, her “mental mealtime load” involves being the one who has to order their weekly food supplies which can be a challenge in a household of five.
“We have all these different age groups in our house right now. We've got toddlers then my husband is a big Canadian steak and potatoes like, meat eater,” she said.
“Violet is a teenager, but she's really more fussy than the toddlers at the moment. She's vegetarian most days and Gousto solves that problem for us four days a week.”
