After my Vegas show wrapped I headed to California to play music with some of my favourite people - @rayparkerjr, @readyfreddiebass, @therealdavidpaich ❤️ I love this beautiful state and all the beautiful souls here. I wanted to support the relief efforts against the wildfires in some way. I’m happy to say that we raised $24,577.87 for @caafoundation SoCal Fire Fund from the proceeds of my Let’s Go Girls T-Shirt on my Vegas merch stand. Thank you to my beautiful fans who came out to a show on the final run and bought this t-shirt.

Papped by my own husband on the way to what turned out to be a great writing session! I’ve been lucky enough to find a little pocket of time to hide away and spend a little while putting down the ideas that have been spinning around in my head since the last album. Funny to hear your own thoughts, feelings and day dreams being realised into actual songs 😊 As I head into my 60th journey around the sun and my 7th studio album I know that this world isn’t systemically built to nurture a woman of my age releasing music BUT I feel more in tune with myself than ever – strong, inspired and full of creative energy. What a blast from the past from my friends at @acmawards. This is: ‘Home Ain’t Where His Heart Is (Anymore)’ back in 1996.

I once read a piece of press that said something like “Country heartbreak was not a style that Shania did often, but it was definitely something that she could do well”… Watching this back, I think there is truth to this. I didn’t always see myself as an artist who could carry a ballad, but with time and experience, I’m able to reflect back and feel a sense of pride.

Sad to miss the #ACM60 awards tonight, BUT I’m in the studio writing, so I have a good excuse 😇 Tune in at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on @primevideo to be nurtured by the musical performances, as I always am! 💗

Over the past few years, Fred and Shania have been renting a place at French Leave Resort in Governor's Harbour, The Bahamas. I guess she sold her home in the Nassau area or it was hit by a hurricane.

Shania Twain, Lake Placid NY, 1997. I’ve worked with Shania a number of times—so there was this trust between us. I was hired to shoot her album cover, and they sent me up to her place in the Adirondacks. It was up in the mountains, along a big lake. We did a bunch of pictures in and around the grounds, even strung a big black backdrop between two trees deep in the woods. It was summer—hot, buggy, wilderness.

I had this idea of shooting her nude in the water, so the next morning we went out to the lake before sunrise, when the lake was still, this amazing fog still lingering. She was all done up—makeup, hair styled, the whole thing—but she disrobed and got right in the water. I stood at the end of the dock, lens ready. A few moments later she says, “Hmm...there are leeches in here.” And I’m like, “What?!” And she says, with far too little urgency, “Just send someone to the garage. There’s a big bag of rock salt—if you pour it around me it will keep them from biting.” It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard.

My assistant ran to get the rock salt, and as we sprinkled it in the water around her, she just stood there and posed for these beautiful images—surrounded by fog and leeches and salt. I’ll never, ever forget it—I would have been nowhere near that f*cking lake. That shoot built our relationship. Later, when I directed one of her music videos, the comfort was already there. She’d been through a lot—had this dark patch, rough marriage. But she came back strong, with that same spirit. Just ballsy and kind and all-in.
