The great moose is such a symbol of my childhood growing up in Northern Ontario so I had to give it it's own version of 'Little Miss Twain' with a special colour vinyl, custom artwork and a special fold out poster with the lyrics to the title track written by yours truly 🤎 officialstore.shaniatwain.com
The bars of Ontario are where I cut my teeth learning how to perform, entertain and hold a room… so making my debut last night at the legendary @horseshoetavern all these years later felt pretty surreal and super special... I’ve really made it now!! ❤️ Thank you everyone who came, you don’t know what it means to me.
What an honour to be on Desert Island Discs @bbcradio4! Choosing a handful of songs to keep me going out there alone was impossible, but each one speaks to a part of my life that made me who I am. Tune in from 10am BST to hear them and the stories behind the music with @laurenlaverne ❤️🏝️www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002z66b
Going into this week still flying from our special Little Miss Twain show at the legendary @horseshoetavern 🥰 I can’t wait for my album to come out now... Is it Friday yet??
This one means so much and now it’s yours. Listen loud, from top to bottom, and come home with me to Northern Ontario, Canada ❤️
Little Miss Twain and those formative years of my life were just a distant private memory until recently and now it’s a shared story. The same as the album, it was mine and now ‘Little Miss Twain’ is ours! Please take a listen and see if it speaks to you. I’m full of anxiety and excitement at the response but even if you find one lyric that speaks to you or makes you feel something I’ll be happy. The emotional journey on this album was a true rollercoaster and there were moments where I felt like I was sitting with my younger self while my mother looked over me. It was very painful at times, but telling some of these stories out loud was also incredibly healing, and then there was the fun and laughter... There are songs here that are also about good vibes, summer days and feeling good! Thank you for going into the next chapter with me - its not easy to evolve as an artist and keep your people with you but you’ve been loyal and supportive through it all. shaniatwain.lnk.to/littlemisstwain
I want to thank the many incredible musicians who worked on this record with me (you all know who you are). It was a privilege to collaborate with you and so many new memories were made while telling this story which I’ll treasure forever. Here are just a few - Thank you to @fred_thiebaud for recording these special moments and for everything you do for me ❤️
Accidentally writing a song during drinks with friends 😂 @ronniewood@nisijoy
Sending this album off into the world in the best way I know how... singing these songs with my fans 🥰 Thank you for coming out to @racketnewyork and recreating a different time. Thank you for believing in this small town girl from Northern Ontario. You kept my release day nerves at bay, appreciate you.
This song is my daydream of the western lifestyle, a life so far away and different to what I was living at the time. I wanted to swap snowmobiles for horses!
Seeing Little Miss Twain out in the world this weekend has been one of those “pinch me” moments ❤️ After spending so much time writing, recording, and dreaming up this album, there’s nothing quite like finally holding it in your hands... and knowing it’s now in yours too. Thank you for making this release week so special!! 🥰
I paid @roughtradenyc a visit to pick up my copy of Little Miss Twain (plus a few more favorites on vinyl) and leave some signed copies behind ❤️ Thank you to all the indie record stores giving this album a home - go pick up a copy and support your local record store!!shaniatwain.lnk.to/lmt_indie
@zachary_dawes and I were in the studio working on Faded Blue Jeans and Zach goes “Josh Homme of @queensofthestoneage is a fan, I really hear him on this with you, we should get him on it.” and i was like are you crazy?? I would LOVE that!! Once Josh came onto the song it started leaning more into that rock side and I loved it. I was in a rock band in the 80s so that rocker part of me is always there somewhere. Now it’s got this bluegrass-rock energy, Josh is bringing his thing, @tboneburnettofficial is playing that Southwestern-style guitar… it really became a melding of so many of my musical influences in one song. I just love where it ended up, it’s one of my favourites on the album.shaniatwain.lnk.to/littlemisstwain
Dolly was pure light sent from heaven. My mentor is gone. My songwriting teacher and hero of grace and humility. There is a hole in my heart but the joy of just the thought of her smile will continue to fill me with inspiration for as long as I live. I will cherish this moment performing Coat Of Many Colors with Dolly forever. Goodbye Dolly. Rest in peace, beautiful angel.
“Happy birthday Billy Ray. This is Shania here,” the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” singer said. “I heard you’re 65. Well, I just don’t believe it. Anyways, have the best birthday ever. I’m all the way in Switzerland now. So, I’m far away, but I’m there in spirit. Have the greatest day and celebrate in style, which I know you will.”
Well, the past year flew by - today is my 61st Birthday and I’ve spent most of the year reflecting and looking backwards. One of the strange and emotional things about getting older is realising that my mother only ever knew me up to the age of 22. She never met the 30-year-old me, the 40, the 50, the 60, or me now.
I’ve felt my mother threaded through so much of what I’ve been doing this year with the Little Miss Twain album... Sometimes I have to stop and think about how completely unbelievable all of this would have sounded to that little girl and to my mother! My dream at the time was to be able to busk in the streets of Toronto, I didn’t imagine something bigger, that seemed such a leap from where I was. Moving forward and now looking ahead I plan to be kind to myself and others. It’s what the world needs now. I want to enjoy these moments for exactly what they are and do as many new things as I can. There are still so many things I dream of I would need another 500 years to get them all done. I want to face the things that scare me and enjoy the things that please me.
So cheers everyone, to appreciating the path behind you and the one infront of you equally. Please take a moment to listen to my album Little Miss Twain - it would mean the world to me, it’s my heart and soul and story all in one ❤️ Here’s to another year of fun, laughter and dressing up!
