Shania Twain Is Opening for Harry Styles. It All Began With a Call to Harry’s Mom
“He said, ‘I’m so grateful to my mother that I was introduced to your music. You’ve been the queen to me ever since,’" Twain says

Shania Twain is currently opening a string of concerts for Harry Styles at Wembley Stadium in London. In a new interview with Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast, the country superstar says it all happened because of the respect Twain has for Styles’ relationship with his mom.
“I’m so happy for him that he still has his mother, through all of this fame, all of his growth, they’re bonded,” Twain says. “They support each other.”
According to Twain, the two first met backstage at an undisclosed event and exchanged numbers. Styles also extended his thanks to the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer.
“He said, ‘I’m so grateful to my mother that I was introduced to your music. You’ve been the queen to me ever since,’” Twain recalls. “And then he says, ‘It’s my mother’s birthday coming up. Would you mind phoning her to wish her a happy birthday?’ I said, ‘Of course, easy, done.’”
Twain called, offered her a birthday greeting and, Twain says, “Congratulated her on such a fabulous son.” Later, Styles asked if she’d join him during his 2022 headlining set at Coachella. Twain admits she underestimated the weight of that request.
“I think I took it too casually. I cared about what I was wearing and I wanted it to be fun and everything, but it was a big, big, big moment,” she says. “We really came together at that moment as two artists, who had already connected as two individuals.”
When Styles decided he was returning to the road this summer, with a residency in London, Twain says her own phone rang.
“He called me up and said, ‘Will you come and do these shows with me at Wembley?’” Twain says. “I’m like, ‘Of course — only for you, Harry.’”
Styles will play 12 shows at Wembley as part of his “Together, Together” stadium residency. Twain is opening all dozen dates, which kicked off June 12. The next Wembley date is June 17; the residency concludes July 4.
Twain, meanwhile, will release her new album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24. Look for Twain’s complete interview on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast coming soon.

Shania Twain wants fans to 'taste and smell' her childhood in new music

Shania Twain wants fans to be able to "taste" and "smell" her childhood in her new music.
The 61-year-old country star's latest record Little Miss Twain was released in July and the album looks back on her younger years growing up in Ontario, Canada - and Shania has revealed one song in particular, Northern Town, is designed to give fans a real feel for the days she spent in a branch of Dairy Queen as a child.
She told Rolling Stone: "I want people to taste the flavors and smell the air and be there, so I did my best to describe what it was like then.
"We would go out target shooting or rabbit snaring or something out in the woods, and my dad would stop at the bar on the way home, and we'd sit in the car and wait while he had a beer.
"Then before driving us home, he would say: 'I'm taking you to Dairy Queen. So, remember, we don't have to talk about stopping for a beer'."
Shania added that writing about her hometown gives her great comfort, explaining: "Often, if I'm missing my hometown or I'm missing nature, it's great therapy to sit with my guitar and just ramble on about the place I love.
"Or the jeans that just no matter how much they've fallen apart, they're still one of my favorite pairs of jeans, you know?
"That's where [the song] Faded Blue Jeans comes in, being 17 and rolling around in the grass with my boyfriend. Things maybe my parents wouldn't have been happy that I was doing."
Shania added of Little Miss Twain: "My first Top 10 [hit] was when I was 30. From the age of six all the way up to then is this whole gap of my life and my music that nobody knows about. The theme of the album is me catching everybody up on who I am as a whole ...
"Little Miss Twain is a reflection on the whole journey of a pre-recording artist - it's the songwriter trying to eventually make it to Nashville, around that big round conference table."
