New Shania Twain! What’s the verdict on her latest album ‘Now’?
From 'Life's About To Get Good' to 'Swingin', Shania is well and truly back!
Attitude | July 14, 2017
Shania Twain’s new album Now is coming soon, and Attitude have been lucky enough to hear some of what the album comes to offer.
Shania is the sole songwriter on the album, which she also co-produced, making the whole thing seem more intimate than anything she has ever done before. At an album listening event in London yesterday (July 13), Shania reflected on the lyrical content of the album. Coming 15 years after her last album, Shania’s life has gone through a lot of changes in the years since 2002’s Up! – including her divorce and the years she took off to deal with various vocal problems and a Lyme disease diagnosis.
Even though the album delved into all of these issues, Shania insists that it’s not a “divorce album”, with the album’s inspiration coming from a lot of losses and grief in her life. However, the message of Now is one of optimism, and about finding joy in living in the moment. There was a time that Shania thought she’d never be able to sing professionally again, so the album is a celebration of all that she has overcome.
We were treated to eight songs out of the album’s 16 tracks, and you’ll be pleased to know that they were all excellent.
The first single from the album, ‘Life’s About To Get Good’, still sounds fresh with every new listen. ‘Home Now’ is a guitar-led track that combines pop and country music in the way that only Shania can, with lyrics focusing on finding oneself and becoming comfortable in your skin.
‘Poor Me’ sees Shania at her most assertive, acknowledging the futility of feeling sorry for oneself. “Poor me this/Poor me that/Why do I keep looking back?” she sings in the mid-tempo guitar-led song. ‘Light of My Life’ is more positive lyrically, with a noticeable Latin influence in the production.
Other tracks like ‘I’m Alright’, ‘Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl’, and ‘Has Anyone Seen My Soldier’ continue with the album’s focus on heartbreak and evolution, while maintaining their own distinctive sound.
The standout track from the collection is ‘Swingin”, an unashamed country banger with a chorus that takes us to heights that haven’t been reached since ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’. It better be the next single, because we’re desperate to hear it again.
Shania Twain’s Son Eja is a Big Fan of ‘Life’s About to Get Good’
By Lauren Laffer | Sounds Like Nashville | July 17, 2017
As fans worldwide become acquainted with the long-awaited new single from Shania Twain, there’s one fan who’s -had the track playing in his head for quite awhile. That listener is Twain’s nearly 16-year-old son Eja, who was one of the first people to hear Twain’s comeback track.
“The first time I played ‘Life’s About to Get Good,’ he loved it,” Twain told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently. “He got up from his chair and it just cheered him up. I said, ‘Oh, well, I’m glad you like that. Why do you like this song so much?’ He goes, ‘’Cause it makes me happy.’ So that’s from a teenager and he just likes feeling happy and likes that spirit in music.”
Eja has been a great ear for his mom while she’s worked on her first album in 15 years (nearly his entire life). The teen is busy working on music himself and the two often swap ideas and arrangements back and forth.
“He’s a good sounding board for tempos and stuff and we both make music at the same time. He’s in his room, I’m in mine and he’s writing and arranging and producing music every day. We text each other and say, ‘Yeah. Come and listen to what I’m doing right now.’ And he’ll say, ‘Come and listen to what I’m doing right now.’ And we exchange and give each other feedback. It’s quite fun,” she shared.
But will the musically inclined family one day collaborate? She’s interested, says the superstar.
“I’d love to, yeah. He’d like to, too, but we’re both doing our own little projects right now but we will, I’m sure at some point, get together and he wants me write him lyrics and stuff like that and melodies. We’ll get there,” she explained. “I said, ‘Son, I’ve got to finish this album and I’ve gotta focus on one thing. On this, creatively. But we’ll most definitely do it.’ He’s got so much of his own world going anyway, musically, I’m not sure how much he can add to it. It’s a whole other thing what he does but it’s fun. It’s fun exchanging and having that music in common.
“Life’s About To Get Good,” the lead single from Shania Twain’s new album Now, is currently at country radio.
***I'm not sure how accurate some of the lyrics are.
Question about the line in "Who's Gonna Be Your Girl?": In the dark you don’t want nothing good to last. What does she mean? Double negation isn't common for English. Does she mean opposite thing then or does she just put stress on the negation? Because in Russian double negation is OK. I just think I might understand it wrong. I mean, should it mean: you want nothing good or you want something good? Or else?

Yes, it means you want nothing good.

Shanias single ain't doing to bad on country radio in Canada, moves up from 36 to 29. That's not to bad and over 500 spins or plays, She is Canadian. I expect her album to do extremely well here in Canada as well
I'm trying to figure out the melodies of those songs but it's impossible to know how they are.
Great lyrics though. I like "You Can't Buy Love" very much.

So do I. And Soldier as well. These two are my favourites for now.
The lyrics are okay but that's because the music is not added when just reading them. I feel that a lot of the songs repeat themselves. But I hope the melodies make them better.

I thought the same actually. She uses similar words and phrases here and there.

I have to agree with both of you! Still can't wait to hear them though!
Shania Twain keeps finding ways to show grace in song, deed, and words
Singer-songwriter stays true to her roots with her history of giving back
By Tresa Patterson | Blasting News | July 18, 2017
To say that Shania Twain has been busy this year would be a massive understatement. The most successful female artist in country music splashed back onto the music scene this year, writing an album of her first all-new music in 15 years. It was a whole new process for the prolific songwriter, this time writing all on her own. Shania Twain drew from her personal journey of hurt to healing both emotionally and physically. She describes the process of writing about the painful betrayal and dissolution of her marriage to Robert “Mutt” Lange as like “having a good cry,” and then moving on. Beyond the emotional struggle, Lyme disease left the singer with vocal cord damage to constantly overcome.
She's doing it all, and still doing good for kids, too.
Battling past challenges is something that Shania Twain has done throughout her life. She started singing at age 8 in local clubs around her Timmins, Ontario area, knowing even then the sacrifice her parents made just to scrape gas money together so her gift could at least be heard in their small world. Although her mother rejoiced in her daughter's love of song, she also had her own struggle with depression. When Shania was a teenager, both her mother and her stepfather were killed in a vehicle accident. The young artist took responsibility to raise and guide her family. She knows about overcoming, as so many of her songs reflect.
Shania Twain has always found ways to be an example of giving back and showing grace in personal and professional realms.
Reports over the last few days have been full of the examples of the singer’s initiatives to make someone else's life better and bestowing kindness from the heart.
No better time than ‘Now’
Understandably, Shania Twain has always had a heart for helping children reach their fullest potential. Early on in her stratospheric rise in music, she made the cause of childhood hunger her own, hosting numerous benefits for food pantries in Canada and the US. In 2010, she established the Shania Kids Can Foundation, which supports underprivileged children with academic, nutritional, therapeutic, and extracurricular measures to allow them to thrive and reach their personal best within a safe, secure environment.
The new album, “Now” is set for release September 29, but Shania Twain is not waiting until the big day to start giving back. She is offering a wide range of album packages and items with proceeds to benefit the foundation. Items offered have something for everyone, from simply the deluxe album package of 16 songs, to autographed memorabilia, a pre-release listening party, wardrobe and props used by the singer in her Las Vegas show, to the ultimate dinner with Shania Twain in Nashville.
Every penny and dime go to the good cause and details can be found on the Pledge Music website under Shania Kids Can—Charity Fundraiser.
Compliments to Kelsea
Shania Twain has found a special friendship with Kelsea Ballerini, who admits that she has been listening to the legendary hit-maker of female empowerment from the time she could listen to music. Kelsea was not only invited to the opening of the Shania Twain exhibit at the Country Music Hall Of Fame, she was also invited to share this stage with the "Life's About to Get Good" singer at her Stagecoach Country Music Festival debut.
Kelsea insists that Shania “is such a trailblazer-- not just for women, but for all of country music.” Shania had Kelsea dumbfounded by the compliments she bestowed from the heart about the younger star. “She's humble. She's talented. She writes. I so admire that. I admire her humility and grace,” Shania praised.
That's a moving endorsement from a graceful country queen to a humble country princess. Both these ladies have learned well what it is to give back.
BILLBOARD UPDATE (week of July 15): After debuting at No. 33 last week on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Top 50 chart, "Life's About To Get Good" falls off this week's chart. The song also falls off the Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart after debuting at No. 17 last week.
On the Billboard Canadian charts, "Life's About To Get Good" climbs 11 spots to No. 38 in its second week on the Canada Country chart. The song falls off the Canadian Hot 100 chart after debuting at No. 70 last week, and also falls off the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart after debuting at No. 16 last week.
BILLBOARD UPDATE (week of July 22):On the Billboard Canadian charts, "Life's About To Get Good" climbs 1 spot to No. 37 in its third week on the Canada Country chart.
BILLBOARD UPDATE (week of July 29):On the Billboard Canadian charts, "Life's About To Get Good" climbs 6 spots to No. 31 in its fourth week on the Canada Country chart.

You think you can write better? then write your own songs lol Nothing but complaining about one thing or another from her fans. First they don't like her first single, then they don't like the cover art on the single . Now they think they can write better songs and are experts on song writing lol My advice to everyone is enjoy the summer and be active. Then in late September buy her album and enjoy all the great new songs,

Simmer down there boy. She's not saying that it's terrible. There are many many many songs, that when reading just lyrics, it appears to be just ok. Add the music and it is completely transform. I consider myself a big fan, and also I had the reaction of the lyrics as being okay, but I also know for a fact that I will be loving these songs once they are released.

i am simmered down 😲😲 and my name is not boy😁 i am not just talking about her, i am talking about in general lots of complaining here.
Well there are lots of her songs where the lyrics seem plain and common without the melody: FTMO, YSTO, FAFA, SNJAPF... but everyone here knows how magical they are so I'm sure that this time won't be different.
The user who posted first the lyrics on "Genius" says "Roll Me On The River" is a song you have to blast whilst driving with your windows down on a hot summer day.
The lyrics were the classic Shania we know. The production and arrangement will put magic into these songs. I am highly satisfied and feel the excitement for Shania as the release of the album becomes nearer. She really is back! Looking forward for the release of her video LATGG, which I think is just around the corner. My assumption is the video will be released within this July and the concept is somehow the same in her single's photo where we can see a beautiful fields with flowers, kinda have resemblance with You've Got a Way.
I never did say I despised the lyrics, what I was meaning was that the lyrics are not the same without knowing the music. It's like poetry that is somewhat simplified. I have no doubt I will be more in tune with the lyrics once I hear the music to it. In fact, the lyrics have grown on me more since I stated my reply. But I'm still longing for music to have the best enterpretation and experience with the lyrics.
It's so funny we're arguing over something that won't be ours for two months now.
I can't imagine the replies once the album will be out. Anyway, I think everyone can have his/her opinion and be respected for.
I agree that you can't judge a book by its cover, and without the music those words aren't at their fullest.
It's like a poem: when it's not read by its writer, it looses something. Not that Shania is a poet, she's not and I don't even think she wants to be or she means to be.
#1stADventures Had the pleasure of sharing the set with these two talented ladies today. Humble beginnings and worldwide reintroductions. Congrats to #shaniatwain and #jennifermassaux for a day of fashion, music, and creativity. Carpe diem #swingingwithmyeyesclosed #countrymusic
***Marc Kelly and Jennifer Massaux are both directors. It looks like the music video for "Swingin' With My Eyes Closed" is being filmed at LightBox Studios in New York City.

I love your enthusiasm. That's what this place needs more of. We should all be eagerly awaiting the release of Shania's first studio album in 15 years. It's been a long time coming, and Shania is officially back! And I'm sure "NOW!" is gonna have a song for everybody, for almost every kind of audience that she has ever had! I just have a feeling that "NOW" is gonna be like a WOMAN IN ME/COME ON OVER/UP kind of album united into one.
I also can't wait for Shania to release her anticipated video for LATGG, I actually hope the single artwork actually has something to do with the music video itself, cause a beautiful field of flowers would be a nice setting for a song like LATGG.
HOLY CROW!!! I've just heard a 15 second snippet of "Swingin'" and "Home Now" and I think I'm going to hurl because I'm so excited!!! I'm dying! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM TO COME OUT! "Swingin'" swinging doesn't sound like what I was expected, in regards to the live version and "Home Now" is just not what I expected all together, what a BOP!
I will post a link to the clips, but only if approve by @Tommy. I don't want to cross the line so I'm gonna leave it up to him.
Also just heard snippets of "Who's Gonna Be Your Girl" and "Soldier". BEAUTIFUL! When I first heard "Swingin'" and "Home Now", I thought to myself, "Oh dear, Shania's gonna hear it from the hardcore country fans, because it's very poppy (closer to "Getcha good" style from "Up") but people will be very please with "Who's Gonna Be Your Girl" and "Soldier" more down to her country roots!
Alright now that I have Tommy's approval... I hope this works for y'all because these are links from twitter and the posters page is/was set to private. Also note these clips are good quality but no HQ. I believe the person who posted purposely "degraded" (those that make sense?) the quality of the songs.
I love "Soldier"! Classic Shania! "Home Now" is great too!
I know right? I so can't wait. I've never been so excited for an album to come out now. To be honest, I've ruined myself by listening to these snippets. Be warned everybody!
Just Wow!!!
NOW that got us more SUPER excited! The short clips of those songs were so... just pumpin' in my heart! I wanna cry! hahaha.. That is the classic Shania I missed!
Swingin' is so powerful! Sure number 1 hit and perfect for next single.
What a way to wake up in the morning!!! I've already fallen in love with these songs.
"Swinging" is soooo powerful, more than the live version we've heard on Today.
The other songs are classic Shania. Can't believe we have 2 months to wait
