Queen Of Me (February 3, 2023) - singles, articles, etc. (Part 2)

Not that I was expecting anything but Shania is not predicted to be in the top 20 for this coming week's Billboard Top 200.

'I love riding a horse through Hyde Park!' | Shania Twain on Magic Breakfast

Country legend Shania Twain talks to Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott about The Brits, meeting Stevie Wonder at The Grammys after party, and her love of Harry Styles and Beyoncé - as well as answering questions from our 'Mini Magic' listeners!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIEvOd_qQgM

***At the 9-minute mark, Ronan Keating asked if "Brand New" will be a single. Shania said "that is the plan".

Brand New is probably the song I listen least to. Best Friend should be a proper single.

“Best Friend” is the only song I skip. Should have been a bonus track and “Done and Dusted” should have been on the regular edition of the album ❤️

I'm actually hearing a lot of people that say Best Friend is a grower. It's been, surprisingly one of my favs from the get go. I thought I was going to dislike this song lol.

I would love it if Brand New was the next single and with a music video! Probably one of my favorites on the album. Between the songwriting, the production, and Shania's voice it's just so good! I have probably listened to Brand New, Pretty Liar, and Hardest Stone the most.

I’ve been a fan of Shania’s since Up!. Before Up!, I had thought Shania Twain was meh—kind of boring—kind of cheesy—I hated From This Moment On (still do) and I loathed That Don’t Impress Me Much (still do) and it irritated the crap out of me that they were both on the radio so much. Forever and for Always is the song she got me with. The melody and the harmonies in that song is magic. It’s magic that is missing from a lot of the songs out there (Unholy has it. As It Was has it). I wanted to chime in and say I believe there is a song on Queen of Me that evokes that magic, and that song is Got It Good. I am surprised y’all aren’t talking about that song more. Giddy Up! is great and Waking Up Dreaming is good (though underwhelming) but Got It Good is pop gold much like the very best of ABBA songs. I do hope it’s the next single.

YES! I have to say that Got It Good, is my number 1 song on the album. People compare it to Not Just A Girl and I understand why, it has the same sound. But they are two completely different songs. They both have to me that classic Shania sounds. I still haven’t tired of listening to Not Just A Girl and I think Git It Good is going to have that longevity for me also.

I think Got It Good is way better than Not Just A Girl… that song is just okay for me but I understand the comparison. She needs to release Got It Good as a single and have a well-liked actor or actress (maybe Pedro Pascal or Paul Rudd or Emma Stone) solo dancing aka Christopher Walken in that Fatboy Slim video to generate buzz and attention.

Also, sure if y’all noticed but Queen of Me is still inside Top 40 on iTunes. I remember NOW falling well out of top 100 after a week so at least we know the new album has some staying power. Her listenership on Spotify is slowly but surely increasing as well. But honestly, who cares. I got that one song I needed from Shania for this album and for that I am grateful.

Paul, I love 'Got it good", the verses are amazing, but the chrous isn't too strong in my opinion, not catchy and special enough.

At the 45-seconds mark, Shania says "I have a world tour this year and I will be back in the studio recording more." I don't know about that. How is she going to have time? Plus I think on TalkShopLive back in November she said the next album won't be out for at least 2 or 3 years.

SHANIA TWAIN PRÉSENTE L’EXCELLENT « QUEEN OF ME » ! (article La Parisienne Life)

Précédé par « Waking Up Dreaming » et « Giddy Up !

SHANIA TWAIN PRESENTS THE EXCELLENT “QUEEN OF ME”! (article La Parisienne Life (FR))

Fortunately for us, this time, Shania Twain did not wait fifteen long years before presenting a new album.

Five years and a few months after the release of “Now” which ranked number 1 in sales in Canada, England, the United States and Australia, Shania Twain unveils an excellent sixth album entitled “Queen Of Me”.

Preceded by "Waking Up Dreaming" and "Giddy Up!" “, the new opus of the Canadian singer perfectly synthesizes what she knows how to do best with a touch of modernity and more.

"Queen Of Me" is undeniably one of Shania Twain's best albums; even if we tend to have the same reflection with each new release from her.

Produced by the artist in the company of Tyler Joseph, Adam Messinger, Mark Ralph and David Stewart, this sixth discographic step is a concentrate of hits in power; “Pretty Liar”, “Inhale/Exhale Air”, “Got It Good”, “Number One” and “Not Just A Girl”; which proves that Shania Twain has lost absolutely nothing of her beauty and above all that she manages to keep her place in the hearts of the public without having to follow fashions; her music is timeless and her Country-Pop mix is as invigorating as ever.

Rare are the albums that we listen to in their entirety two or even three times in a row, they are so good, but it is certain that this brilliant "Queen Of Me" is one of them.

Queen of Me is still hanging on at #42 on US iTunes chart. Little victories that may or may not lead to a massive one. I mentioned it before but NOW fell of iTunes top 200 in a matter of a week. Just saying.

Because of the Presidents' Day holiday yesterday, the new Billboard charts won't be released until tomorrow (Wednesday).

"The new Feb. 25, 2023-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Wednesday (Feb. 22), one day later than usual, owed to Presidents’ Day holiday on Monday (Feb. 20) in the U.S."

Honestly I don't know why the album fell so fast off the charts. To me the music is amazing and this album was we'll put together. Even in Canada I expected better sales. Perhaps age has a lot to do with it? Maybe the wrong singles were released? Some say good promotion others say terrible. Some say good voice others say terrible. Most artists over 40 don't sell records anymore and it happened to Celine Dion with a album a few years ago. She's almost near 60. I sometimes wonder being an outsider and Canadian does it have any affect on radio play or is country Radio male dominated? I think the album should have been released last year when the Netflix documentary was released around the same time. Worldwide people know Shania but most music you can listen to for free. I do agree on one thing this is a pretty massive tour coming up and not sure if tours help with album sales. We don't have CMT in Canada no more in fact Much More Music is also gone and has been for years. The Woman In Me was a huge success, Come On Over was a international/Massive success and to have one of the best records ever made is an accomplishment not many artists especially female ever achieved especially over 40,000,000 and all those hits. Up! was also a major success not like Come on Over but was still a big hit but nothing like Come on Over. The Greatest Hits was also a album sales hit. Now was an independent album all written by Shania which other then the production the songs were well written. I was amazed with her song writing skills. Just the production and her voice were off. However I loved Who's Gonna Be Your Girl always wanted that as the first single and Solider I believe had it of been promoted would had been a hit. Then she has done some duets since now and we're pretty good. She honestly on this new album did an amazing job but unfortunately as a country artist you need country pop not pure pop. It must be hard on her looking at the album and seeing it fall so fast off the charts. She says it's about the fans but she really put effort into this Album. There was a Tiktok song why it got scrapped was beyond me to me it sounded like one of her best. Will we get a third single maybe? She's touring this year but her next album and hopefully she does another album she gets into more of a country sound and maybe a duet with some big star. I sometimes wonder is she afraid to do duets because she's afraid of how she might sound or are these duets she always wants to do with Harry Styles, Lizzo and others more of a dream then reality? Harry Styles would not say no to doing a duet with Shania Twain I believe it's Shania Twain who's afraid to do a duet. Regardless Im not sure why album sales are the way they are. Giddy Up! did well on Spotify but other than that I don't see much more success off this album. I personally think the album is great but it just doesn't fit with country radio. Will there even be another album? Who knows takes her years to make one. She always says she's got lots of songs written if that were the case we would not wait five years to get a new album. Maybe she's does not care about the charts it is more about just making music. Regardless Shania I love the new album and times have changed. Besides you're still selling out stadiums and people go to see you. Enjoy this tour and hopefully we get another single with an amazing music video. Hopefully a new album again some day. Until then have fun and enjoy your life and do what makes you happy.

Commercial success of queen of me:

There is no question that the album is good
You see on hitsdaulydouble that an album can be on number one with less than 500 units sold. All is about streaming. I guess even the “sales” on iTunes have a very small impact.
Apple Music she chatted Low. But she was invisible in most streaming platforms (Spotify feeder etc)
She did not good promotion. Sitting and talking is not the rift promotion for a musician. It’s music = performance.
Also the AC radio stations in all America would be maybe enough of it was a country like panama or Andorra.
People don’t buy an album if they like a song they hear. We all know hearing music is possible in free platforms which do not contribute to the charts unless you are a subscribed payed member.
The 30k sales she did was 98% fans from the 90s.
I do not know if it’s here “being in between” the genres or just an ignorance of her as an artist.
We love her so we like her music (we observe it different) there are many artist and there is many music.
I do not get the hype of the kill bill song for example.
I was expecting her to Fall to around 50/60 but not to 150. That’s 1 week in the top 100.
I would really not wonder if that would be her last album as also the label doesn’t make profit.
I guess she even promised the tour to get the deal. So hopefully she really loves performing.
From now on I stop being sad. She is not famous at all after all.
Her clips get in 5 years the less views on YouTube then other clips in the first hour. Don’t know if that’s something about an algorithm. Without a major hit (not sure if there is one on the album) she can’t be successful again.
And probably a woman in her age with the popularity she has in radio it really needs a gorgeous song. Easiest way a collab. Don’t know if all artist can decide by themself if they want to collaborate. Probably their label has to give the okay. I mean harry Styles could also go with beoyonce. Lizzo with Adele. So I do not think it’s shania who is not sure. She would do it.
I was not expecting something else for this album as I mentioned before. The tour won’t sell albums.
To be honest. I didn’t buy the album in my country. But I think I ordered 4 for the tickets for the show in London (not the concert show)
And I would consider myself to one of the 10 biggest shania fans in the world.

Yeah, I do not care about sales. This album is way better than NOW and I’m jamming to this album like I did with Up! all those years ago. I’ll be here for her no matter what now and the lackluster reception makes me wanna be even more of a hardcore fan. Also, this album isn’t done yet. Like Elton John, she needs to get Harry Styles in the studio and remix Got It Good with him as a duet. We got a great album from her, guys. For that I am grateful. H

Shania's at a point where she just wants to have fun. Selfishly I wish she performed on shows or did one-off filmed performances like the People's Choice Awards but she's just doing what she wants.

I really hope she keeps promoting the album with new singles, at least in the UK. I wasn't expecting her to keep the album top 20 the second week and with Starstruck still airing and a new single release she might keep the album in the chart longer.
Am I wrong or an user on another music message board mentioned a Deluxe edition of "Queen of Me"? with 5 extra songs and a feat?

That information came from a supposed insider on ATRL but nothing has been confirmed yet. So as of right now, we have to take that information with a grain of salt.

Also, welcome to the forum!

Promotion no live performances. Good album still unfortunately it is what it is. Low sales.

Not promoting an album or single will result in the results QOM is now seeing. Nonexistent on any chart.

I mean at least QOM is still on the US iTunes Top 200 chart. She was out of the scene for so long before the mess that was NOW (other than Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl and Roll Me On the River, production and vocals were almost unlistenable even when the songs themselves were well-written… ) it’s gonna take a duet with a prominent younger artist to get ears on her again. ie: REMIX Brand New with Miley Cyrus etc…

She is focusing way too much on flash. Silly outfits. Always a different hairstyle or hair color for no reason. Posing nude and talking about it over and over again. Along with constant conversations about her “giant saggy boobs”. She is almost 60. She needs to stop trying to chase youth and be cool. She needs to grow up and write some mature serious music that will leave a lasting impact. Enough of trying to create dance crazes like “Giddy Up”. She is way past her prime. This is why it’s all failing. Nobody wants to see a 60 year old lady act this desperate.

Speak for yourself, I love QOM and a lot of people do, i like fun and candid Shania. Let her be and stop categorizing people by their age. It’s nothing but a number. She’s finally being her authentic self.

Agreed with Honeyimhome. Why is everyone okay being agist but everything else is called out even at the slightest inconvenience of the current cultural agenda? It’s perfectly fine, inspiring even for older generations to still be ambitious and to want to have fun. Shania isn’t known for serious music… she’s not a Joni Mitchell (who I also love). Shania’s work, to me, is an extension of ABBA.

I don't see anything wrong in her playing with different looks but I can see your point...part of her audience is probably distracted and deluded by her current image.

Part of her fans are conservative people that fell in love with her "girl next door image" and now  don't accept  that she's having fun with colorful and eccentric looks.

The same audience probably don't appreciate her new musical pop/dance direction  with no country songs (only Giddy up and the 2 bonus tracks) and the fact that she's a LGBT supporter has surely alienated other conservative fans.

The only thing that I find a little odd is that she's still talking about lyme disease and Mutt divorce...she has already covered those subjects in her "Now" promotional era...
