And I did not say Mutt deserves all the credit, that would be a false and silly thing to say. But I strongly believe, judging by her early songs and songs that were drastically changed by Mutt, that Mutt was a main contributor to her lyrics, and obviously her sound. I don't agree with your assessment that Shania wrote most of the lyrics. But no use fighting over that point. Mutt had the lyrical credentials and had written Many successful songs before Shania came on the scene--so his lyrical prowess was very well documented by that time.

I'd like to add. I was impressed with the lyrics sheet shown in her Homecoming TV programme back in 2004. There were her lyrics of You're Still The One and his corrections over her writing. There were a lot of them! So yes, he edited her stuff a lot, even the lyrics (that's why LATGG souds so rough to me with clumsy rhymes in the verses, I think).

Clumsy rhymes in the verses? Have you listened to the "Up!" album? Haha. There are several songs on there that have "clumsier" rhymes than any lines in this song. I actually don't find any of the rhymes in this clumsy and think it flows pretty well.

Why not leave my comment alone if you disagree? Another turn in this conversation to say once again  that some fans are angry? I'm not. I'm glad she's finally back. I'm glad the empty promises are over and it's obvious the album is going to be released. I just try to discuss things but it turns into fighting through "typical fans" accusations. I find the lyrics clumsy, yes. But I won't explain why I think so otherwise this just won't stop! I've never said I liked all Up! songs equally! But again I won't discuss this matter because some people here just can't stand when somebody doesn't like all 100% of Shania's songs. But I do think that the first single from that album was much better that LATGG. That's all. And I didn't know about Shania in 1997 when Come On Over was released - I was too little then. But when I bought COO I was surprised to know that Love Gets Me Every Time was released first - not MIFLAW or TDIMM. I don't like her old stuff equally too. And I didn't say I don't like LATGG at all. I find it avarage - that's all, period.

And I have a question to the native speakers of English here. Explain to me the title of Swingin' With My Eyes Closed. When I translate swing into my mother tongue it has a lot of meanings even considering the song (I've listened and understood a lot of it), so it's hard for me to understand her point here especially in accordance with the Rolling Stone article where she talked about a boxer swinging and a baby swinging. So I'll be very grateful if somebody can explain.confuse

I think it's about she's just going to go in fighting, not sure what to expect, but you know, she's just going to go for it, and hope it turns out well. Maybe? Does that help at all? or maybe someone else has another insight.

Shania said "Swinging With My Eyes Closed," is about fighting back against pain. "The fighter in me wrote that song," she says. "I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can't even see yet and they're swinging with their eyes closed."

So the song is about getting past and fighting back against painful times in her life. Basically she just uses the boxer and baby as an example of people swinging ("throwing punches") with their eyes closed.

Isn't it about dancing? Because at first after her description with the boxer and baby I thought about a punch in boxing. But after mentioning a song on the radio I thought that maybe she meant the dance after all.

It's not about dancing. It's about her moving forward no matter what and not knowing what her future holds.

It would not surprise me if "swinging" was a deliberate (or retroactive) double entendre - I think dancing can make sense given the context of the song ("fist UP in the air").

Overall I like Swingin better than LATGG, BUT (1) the measure between the bridge and chorus is weird, (2) talking about "one more beer" seems very unShan (she seems more like a white wine gal to me), and (3) the part where they say "kiss kiss" is really strange to me, and (4) the random Flight of the Bumblebee part toward the end - why break up this stadium rock banger like that? But yeah I like it better. Wish it would've been the lead single tbh

A wonder when a music video will be released? Hopefully she promotes the single more

By the way, it's sad she hasn't said anything about the video yet, yes. And the hosts of Today Show had better asked her about that instead of asking about FTMO and peeing her pants for the 100th time.

In the U.S., "Life's About To Get Good" is currently #8 on the iTunes Country chart and #46 on the overall All Genres chart. Yesterday it was #2 on the iTunes Country chart and #19 on the All Genres chart. Apparently it's normal for songs to drop a little after initial impact sales over the first 2 days. Let's just hope the song can stay in the Top 10 on the iTunes Country chart.

And let's hope country radio will play the song. It would be cool to see a nice debut on the charts and to see the song in the Top10

Chris Crocker: will the video for your new song be out soon?

Shania: Yes!

I am hoping that the music video will release before June ends to create more noise for LATGG.
Maybe in her performance in UK there would be another new song. I hope it will be a powerful balad.

Shania Twain reveals her first album in 15 years was almost produced by Prince

ABC Radio News | June 16, 2017

Shania Twain's long-awaited new album, NOW, is due September 29, and it's her first collection of new material since Up!, 15 years ago.  The Canadian diva worked with a number of producers on this project, but if things had gone differently, it would've been produced by none other than rock-and-roll legend Prince.

One reason Shania's new album has taken so long is because since the release of Up!, she divorced her husband -- who was also her producer and main collaborator -- and struggled with dysphonia, an ailment that made it nearly impossible to sing.

"The very first producer that called me, who reached out to me before I'd even written the album -- I was writing all the time but I hadn't started writing for the album...I get a call from Prince," Shania told reporters in Nashville this week.

"And Prince and I -- we had a few conversations, we emailed each other," she added. "We exchanged [notes] on email for...months."

Ultimately, Shania admits she let the opportunity pass her by.

"When he was calling me and mailing me, I wasn't ready to do the album," she revealed. "He said, 'Come to my studio, let's get started,' and I just said, 'I can't sing right now, I just don't have my voice yet.'  And I never did it."

When she finally was ready, Shania says, Prince was on tour, and they never reconnected. Now, of course, with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's death, the collaboration will never happen.

Says Shania, "It's like, if I ever had, you know, professional regret, that is definitely one of them."

Shania new single "Life's About to Get Good" is available to stream or download today.

oops kevy back for another comment. 😲climb what chart?? Of course it will climb higher on charts as it gets more radio play,  It has got a real good start on audience impressions on country mediabase, it goes for adds Monday,  People are paying way too much attention to itunes charts. Also Shania is 51 years old and charts are so much different now and country radio never even let her have a number 1 off her up album. Shania is all about album sales,  and i am sure she will sell tons of albums in the fourth quarter and holiday season, BUT she will need decent airplay to keep selling, i think her songs off this album will get good airplay,  i think both songs are better than the crap on radio today.

I agree with Kevy that the song will do better once it gets radio play. It isn't even sent out for play until tomorrow.

One thing that I can't quite wrap my head around is why a summer release for the single? There's very limited ways to promote the single since most talk shows have went on hiatus for the summer. With Shania being gone for so long, she'll definitely need to promote the heck out of the song, but I'm not sure how she'll do that.

I think really releasing it during the summer was part of her plan to avoid singing it on talk shows and such. She is very limited with her damaged vocal chords...thus, why she was lip singing on Today...

She wasn't quite lip singing (I mean literally just opening her mouth). She was singing along with the studio track. And she only did that with two new songs and sang two others live. Her singing wasn't perfect, but it was live though. So I think the reason is that she or her band had little time to prepare or she was afraid of forgetting the lyrics on TV. And I don't usually follow the statistics but I thought she didn't want to have some real rivals and that's why the single was released in summer and the album is going to come out in the beginning of autumn.

Shania will do the whole talk show circuit tour in September/October to promote the release of the album. By then the second single will be out for her to perform.

Shania Twain’s Son Helped Pick First Single From New Album

By Sam Alex | Taste of Country | June 15, 2017

Shania Twain‘s new music is a family affair. The country superstar tells Taste of Country Nights that her son Eja helped her pick the first single from her forthcoming album, Shania Now.

Twain wrote a huge batch of songs for her upcoming album, and she says when it came to picking the track to precede the release, the 15-year-old’s input was invaluable. He “really loved this one particularly, he responded so enthusiastically to it,” she says.

Eja’s father is Twain’s former husband and producer, Mutt Lange, and it sounds like he’s a chip off the old block.

“He’s very much into music,” she shares. “He’s very much into arranging and writing and producing. He’s so passionate about it, he spends all of his spare time doing that.”

Twain says she didn’t encourage him toward a career in music; Eja gravitated toward it by the age of 12 and spends hours and hours poring over the technical aspects of programming, engineering and how to get sounds, as well as music.

“He’s just addicted and very passionate and serious about it,” she says. Twain is set to release Shania Now on Sept. 29. It’s her first full-length studio album since 2002’s Up!, and she has said that the new songs were inspired in no small part by her divorce from Lange and the aftermath. “Life’s About to Get Good” encapsulates those themes, she says.

“And I also feel that it says a lot about my story in this album, which is going from dark to light and sad to happy, and that whole transition. How to find optimism, recognize optimism in a difficult time. So this song that has that real emotional conflict in it that I love, that represented the album well.”

Shania Twain’s New Music Inspired by Struggle: I Had to Learn to Dream

By Greg Sacidor | Radio.com | June 19, 2017

For the first time in 15 years, Shania Twain is ready to release new music – music that was shaped by her tumultuous upbringing.

“On the outside, I look like a normal person with all the blessings that everybody could imagine,” Twain told Shelly Easton of 92.5 XTU in Philadelphia. “That only came to me after a really long life of struggling.”

During Twain’s childhood, violence was prevalent in her home. As too was the struggle with hunger.

“We were hungry a lot of the times. A lot of months we had to decide if we were going to get groceries or pay the hydro bill. These are vital decisions.”

While it was “very hard to find optimism” in such an environment, Twain was able to learn how to dream by watching her mother’s suffering. Now soon-to-be five albums later, Twain has gone from a struggling child to an 18-time Grammy Award nominee and five-time winner.

Nearly 15 years after the release of her diamond-certified album Up! the stage is now set for Twain’s next collection of music. Twain’s new album Now, which will feature the Canadian artist’s latest single “Life’s About To Get Good,” will be released September 29.

We will have to wait until next week to see if "LATGG" debuts on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart which combines sales, airplay from all radio formats and streaming data. The new charts officially come out on Wednesdays but are dated the following Saturday. Like magazines, they are dated a week ahead. For example the Billboard charts online that were released on Wednesday the 14th are dated Saturday the 24th.

"LATGG" will be on the Country Airplay chart online this Wednesday, June 21 but the chart will be dated Saturday, July 1.

Shania Twain’s Swearing Almost Prevented Her from Working with Prince

"When I’m working with music and I’m relaxed, I swear."

By Greg Sacidor | Radio.com | June 20, 2017

It may come as a surprise, but Shania Twain is an admitted swearer and it almost prevented her working with the legendary Prince.

The “Purple Rain” artist was the first producer to reach out to Twain in regards to creating a new record. While it wasn’t the right time for Twain to begin working as she didn’t have any songs ready, she was hesitant to take Prince up on his offer due to his “no swearing in the studio” policy.

A native of Ontario, Canada, Twain told Shelly Easton of 92.5 XTU swearing was the norm for her.

“When I’m working with music and I’m relaxed, I swear,” Twain said.

The five-time Grammy Award winner admitted she questioned how she was going to be creative without swearing, something she has a pretty good control over since the birth of her son. “I said oh no, how am I ever going to be creative if I couldn’t swear?”

Twain admits her fear of not working with Prince due to her swearing was “premature.” In April of 2016 Prince passed away before Twain and him could ever work together.

“I’m really regretting not getting back to that,” Twain admitted.

It may not feature any works with Prince, but Twain’s new album, her first in almost 15 years, is ready for release.

Twain’s Now will be released September 29.

What is she saying about her nose at 0:43? What does she have and what does it do to her nose?

Deviated septum. The bone (cartilage?) in her nose is off-center rather than straight, making her nose look bumpy.

She hasn't even been to Canada to promote the single, Falling off the iTunes chart here too, I like the song but it definitely ain't looking like it will be her comeback song

I don't think people should be placing all of their energy on the itunes charts. They just barely started playing this song on Country radio, some stations aren't even going to start playing it until Monday of next week. We have no idea how this song is going to pan out on the charts. I keep hearing this talk about the itunes chart and people are talking as if the song has failed! You keep posting things like "Its still dropping" "Its continuing to fall". Don't try and kill the song when it hasn't even got off the ground running yet! I understand that the itunes chart tracks purchases, etc... But the song needs to get up and running, like I said, some stations are not even introducing it until later this week or next week. The song is not dead, and we have no way of knowing how the song will do on the country charts. Yes, we can see that it "continues to fall" on the itunes chart but that doesn't mean its dying out. The music video hasn't even been released yet. Some people have just made up their mind and they are convinced that the song will flop (maybe because they don't like the song themselves). Give it a chance, let the radio stations start playing it.

Shania Twain Returns

By Jim Asker | Billboard | June 20, 2017

'GOOD' START: Shania Twain's new single, "Life's About to Get Good," debuts on Country Airplay at No. 36, with 4.8 million in audience. The song is the first single from Twain's fifth studio LP, Now (Sept. 29), her first album of new material since 2002's Up!, which topped both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums.

The self-written "Good" is Twain's first entry on the Country Airplay chart since 2011's No. 36-peaking "Today Is Your Day" (her only prior charted title this decade). It's her 34th total visit, a sum that includes seven No. 1s among 16 top 10s.

Will country radio embrace Twain's new song for the long term? Early reaction appears mixed. "It is pretty exciting to get new music from an iconic act like Shania," Cumulus Media vp country Charlie Cook tells Billboard. "Her fan base is so passionate about her. When she played Nashville's Bridgestone Arena last year, the place was nuts. I would say, with all in mind, life's about to get good for Twain."

Conversely, one major-market PD who prefers to remain anonymous asks, "After all that time off, this is the best that she can do?"

Shania's new music will never reach the levels of success she had in the 90s. Mutt Lange is a hit-maker and musical genius. People also don't buy music the way they used to.
When she was with Mutt, she had the whole package; better management team. She keeps repeating herself in boring interviews: the whole dark to light imagery of the album, and the peeing herself story.

The way she kept posting old photos on Instagram and Twitter for the last year was boring and lacked creativity. Fans would rather see what she was having for breakfast.

It is very brave of her to write on her own, but I'm surprised she didn't pay for better producers.

The launch of this single is off to a mediocre start.

okay everyone needs to get a grip lol first of all Shania's last many singles produced by mutt did not do very well. This has nothing to do with production, Shania always gets mixed reviews no matter what she puts out, Country radio since before 2002 weren't that friendly to Shania,  Plus this single just started lol hold your horses and relax lol Shania is about album sales nomatter how country radio embraces her new music , And to be real here ,this first single is better than quite a few songs mutt produced for Shania ,it is just different, As far as producers? Do your research, she picked very good producers and successful ones who she connected with,  Time for you all to take a deep breath lol  Time to stop kissing Mutt's butt, This is a different time and no song produced by mutt today wouid have the same success on radio,Hell they didn't even have that success on his last work with her, Shania did the right thing trying something different and i am sure her album sells well and she will have success with her songs too.

It's a streaming world anymore anyway... I agree with HumbleKevy though, I think we are rushing the process a bit. I also think Shania and her management know this, hence why single #1 has been released almost 3 months before the album. I also think that this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of new sounds and exciting things on the album. Shania is smart and always has been, this single can test the country waters, subsequent singles and promotion can then be adjusted based on these findings. Country radio is never kind to Shania, this may or may not change, but with today's technology, streaming services are taking over anyway...

With that said, this is promising, Top 10 of Spotify Viral 50!

GLOBAL!

US, is even better:

I'm very optimistic about this single. Granted, us fans have been listening to it since April thanks to Stagecoach which honestly, I think took away some of the steam of it. I still personally maybe listen 10 times a day or so, however had it been the first time I heard last week, would definitely be doubled. I am purposely not listening to "Swingin" now as I LOVE the song and want to ride the excitement train when it's released.

Alsoooo, the video hasn't come out yet, there is always a ton of media with those AND honestly, the media has been kind to her. I subscribe to Google Alerts for Shania and EVERY article about her is in her favor, that was not always the case.

I could not agree more, Kevy. I have been saying from the very beginning that #1. We live in a different time. It is 2017, not 1997 anymore and music and its styles have changed #2. Everyone is praising Mutt Lange and I don't disagree that hes an amazing producer and they had amazing hits. But not all of her songs were a success just because they were produced by him. I don't need to get into every single song that didn't chart well, but her last few, "Don't!", "I Aint No Quitter!" Were those successful songs on the charts? NOT AT ALL. And they were produced by Mutt Lange. She has always had a difficult time getting country radio to play her music. #3. Stop assuming that this new song is going to fail! As I said yesterday, let the radio stations start playing it! People have made up their mind already that somehow this song is going to flop because Mutt's not producing it. Its not up and running yet, don't kill it before it even has the chance to get on the charts . #4. She picked some of the best producers in music right now. They are absolutely amazing, talented producers. Again, its a different era and a new generation of young adults, and music sounds different than it did in the 1990's. How do we know that Mutt Lange would have done an amazing job for her on a new album now in 2017? Her last few hits in 2005 were not so popular and they were produced my Mutt. Her and Mutt had an amazing thing going in the 1990's and early 2000's. But their partnership is over, and its time to move forward and try to embrace the new sound and the new era in music.

As I said before, the true telling of "LATGG" will be when next week's Billboard Hot Country Songs chart comes out which is based on sales, airplay and streaming. If the song debuts in the 30s I really think the song is in trouble and honestly don't see it climbing up the chart. Radio stations that have had the song since last Thursday have only played the song 2 or 3 times a day. That tells you something right there. Radio station music directors are smart. They know a hit when they hear it and will play a song over and over again. This is not the case with "LATGG". And I realize the song was just added to radio. But if a song is a true hit, they are usually put on high rotation on Day 1.

***I am not bashing Shania or the song. I'm just telling it straight forward.
